Objectives:The effects of health management on menstruation, the clinical syndromes of Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp,Body Mass Index(BMI),Waist-Hip Ratio(WHR),Insulin Resistance(IR)and Testosterone in the patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome(PCOS)in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp,and to investigate the effect on patients with PCOS in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp by individual health management.Methods:Seventy-eight patients with PCOS in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp diagnostic criteria were selected,39 patients in the health management group were integrated individualized health management programs to intervene in their lifestyles, including diet, exercise, and sleep, etc. While 39 patients in the control group no lifestyle intervention. No medication and operation during the period.Patients in both groups were provided regular follow-up for three months. The menstruation,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)Syndromes,BMI,WHR,Luteinizing Hormone/Follicle-Stimulating Hormone(LH/FSH),and IR were observed between before and after health management.Results:(1)General information:A total of 78 patients that met the diagnostic criteria were collected,9 of which dropped out,and 69 of them were finally completed. All results of reviewing items were statistically analyzed. There were no significant differences in the scores of all reviewing items between two groups before health management(P>0.05),and all of them were comparable.(2)Anthropometric indicators:The body weight,BMI,Waist Circumference(WC),Hip Circumference(HC)and WHR of the patients in health management group decreased significantly at each month after health management compared with the control group;there was significant difference in BMI between two groups before and after one month of health management(P<0.05);there was significant difference in the BMI,WC and WHR between two groups before and after two month of health management(P < 0.05);and there was significant difference in the BMI,WC andWHR between two groups before and after three month of health management(P<0.05);but there were no significant differences in the body weight and HC between two groups before and after health management.(3)Menstruation and TCM syndromes scores:The menstruation and the total symptoms scores of TCM in health management group decreased significantly at each month after health management compared with the control group;there were no significant difference in the total symptoms scores of TCM between two groups before and after one month of health management(P >0.05);there was significant difference in the total symptoms scores between two groups before and after two months and three months of health management(P < 0.05);but there were no significant differences in the scores of menstrual cycle and the scores of menstrual volume between two groups before and after health management(P>0.05).(4)Reproductive Endocrine index:The LH,FSH,LH/FSH,T,ThyroidStimulating Hormone(TSH),Fasting Plasma Glucos(FPG),Fasting Insulin(FINS),2Hour Insulin(2h INS)and IR in health management group decreased at each month after health management compared with the control group;there was difference in the TSH,FINS,IR between two groups before and after health management(P<0.05),and there were no differences in the LH,FSH,LH/FSH,T,2h INS,FPG between two groups before and after health management(P<0.05).(5)The evaluation of health management process:there have 82.35 percent,91.44 percent,70.57 percent of patients in health management group said that they approved or very satisfied with the content, duration and style of health management.Conclusions:(1)Three months of health management intervention can effectively reduce the anthropometric index, including body weight,BMI,WC,HC and WHR)of patients with PCOS in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp;and can promote the formation of good habits and customs with patients with PCOS in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp;(2)Three months of health management intervention can improve the clinical syndromes of Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp in PCOS patients, and has a definite improvement effect on the menstrual cycle and menstrual volume;(3)Three months of health management intervention can down-regulate the levels of TSH,FINS,IR of patients with PCOS in Spleen Deficiency and Phlegm-damp,thereby improving the reproductive endocrine disorders, and we speculated that the health management intervention can be useful in reducing the risk of long-term complications of patients with PCOS,such as type 2 diabetes. However, does the health management intervention word on the LH,FSH,LH/FSH,T,2h INS,FPG of patients with PCOS need to be further investigated. |
