Objective Structural magnetic resonance imaging(s MRI)was used to investigate the abnormal brain structure of depression patients by comparing the correlation between the whole brain structure and clinical symptoms of the first onset depression patients and the healthy control group.By comparing the differences between the whole brain structure of patients with depression relieved by SSRIs treatment and those with onset depression disorder, the changes of brain structure of patients with depression disorder before and after SSRIs treatment were investigated. Methods We studied a total of 56 participants, including 28 patients with first onset depressive disorder diagnosed using dsm-4 diagnostic criteria(case group)and 28 healthy controls from the community(control group). The general demographic information was collected and the Hamilton depression scale(HAMD)and Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)were assessed in the case group before and after treatment with escitalopram oxalate and in the control group at baseline, and the score reduction rate of the case group was calculated.T1 imaging mri data were collected before and after drug treatment in the case group and at baseline in the control group. The differences in cerebral cortex changes before and after treatment in the case group and the differences in cerebral cortex changes between the case group and the control group were compared using surface based morphological measurement analysis(SBM)under SPM12 software.Result At baseline, the thickness of the cortex in the rostral middle frontal of the right side of the brain was significantly decreased in the first untreated depressive disorder patients compared to the healthy control group. In the case group, after treatment with escitalopramoxalate, the gyrification of the local cortex in the fusiform gyrus, the lateral occipital region, the lingual gyrus, the medial orbitofrontal cortex, the posterior cingulate gyrus, the superior temporal gyrus, the superior limbic gyrus and the superior frontal gyrus of the left brain of the depressed patients after treatment were decreased compared with that before treatment. The gyrification of the local cortex on paracentral, precentral, superiorparietal and bankssts of the left side of the brain increased. All the differences were statistically significant(p<0.05 after FWE correction at the vertex level). Conclusion In patients with first episode depressive disorder, the thickness of cerebral cortex was decreased in some brain regions without drug treatment. After 8 weeks of treatment with escitalopram oxalate, the gyrification of multiple brain regions was changed.
