Objective:This study aimed to study the current situation and the influencing factors of the self-efficacy in children with short stature, and to provide suggestions for further specific interventions regarding the different levels of self-efficacy of children with short stature. Methods:This is a cross-sectional study.According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,Using convenient sampling,302 children with short stature in the outpatient department of ******* hospital from September 2017 to August 2019,aged 8 to 12 years, were recruited into this study. The General Self-Efficacy Scale and the Screen For Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders were used to assess the self-efficacy and the level of anxiety of children with short stature, respectively. All the data were entered in SPSS 19.0 statistical software for statistical analysis.Results:1.The results of self-efficacy in children with short stature showed that the patient's self-efficacy score was(2.63± 0.34).Among them,245(81.1%)had a medium to low level of self-efficacy,and 57(18.9%)had a high level of self-efficacy.2.The result of univariate analysis of the factors affecting the self-efficacy of children with short stature demonstrated that the variables including(1)child's age, gender, height, academic record, family location, family monthly income, whether he/she was the only child in the family, whether he/she used growth hormone, for how long he/she used growth hormone, the score of anxiety;(2)parents' height, occupation, education level were related with the self-efficacy of the children with short stature(P<0.05).3.The result of multiple analysis of the factors affecting the self-efficacy of children with short stature showed that the factors including(1)child's age, gender, height, whether he/she used growth hormone, family monthly income, the score of anxiety;(2)father's height and education level were associated with the self-efficacy of children with short stature(P<0.05).Conclusions:1.The self-efficacy of children with short stature is at the medium level.2.Child's age, gender, height, whether he/she used growth hormone, family monthly income, the score of anxiety, father's height and education level are the influencing factors of self-efficacy in children with short stature.Children with short stature are older, shorter in height, lower in family monthly income, more anxious, father's height and education level are lower, their self-efficacy is lower;girls and those who are not using growth hormone have lower self-efficacy.This study suggests that medical personnel should develop specific interventions for children in the process of treatment, combined with their main influencing factors to improve the children's self-efficacy.
