The Research On The Development Of Self-management Efficacy Questionnaire For Glaucoma Patients And Its Correlation With Quality Of Life

Objective:The goal of this study is to develop a questionnaire which can provide an evidence for the evaluation of self-management efficacy of glaucoma patients and to analyze the level of self-management efficacy in glaucoma patients and its relationship with QOL.Furthermore we can provide a reference for effective nursing intervention and higher QOL.Methods:Based on literature review and interviews with glaucoma patients,the concept and dimensions of self-management efficacy of glaucoma patients were preliminarily defined.Through experts and patients consultation,the preliminary questionnaire of self-management efficacy for glaucoma patients was formed.The method of sampling went to convient sampling,and we selected 159 patients who had been diagnosed with glaucoma in outpatient department of ophthalmology of the First Hospital affiliated China Medical University to conduct the survey meanwhile testify the quality of the questionnaire.The demographic data and disease related information was investigated by self-designed general information questionnaire.The self-management efficacy questionnaire for glaucoma patients and NEI-VFQ-25 scale were used to survey the self-management efficacy and quality of life.SPSS19.0 software was used for data entry and statistical analysis.Maximum,minimum,mean±standard deviation and percentage were used to describe patients’ demographics,self-management efficacy and quality of life;Pearson correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis were used to analyze the relationship between self-management efficacy and quality of life.Results:1.The self-management efficacy questionnaire for glaucoma patients included 27 items and 7 factors.The cumulative contribution was 64.136% and all the items’ load were avobe 0.4,S-CVI was 0.99.The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and split-half reliability of the questionnaire were 0.899 and 0.868,each dimension’s Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was vary from 0.633 to 0.790;the retest reliability of the questionnaire was 0.990,and the retest reliability of each dimension was 0.927～0.986(p < 0.01).2.The score of self-management efficacy of glaucoma patients was112.08±13.65,the general health score was 45.91±22.30 and the comprehensive scorewas 78.65±12.80,both at a moderate level.Self-management efficacy,single-factor analysis showed that education level,occupation,marital status,smoking and duration of disease can influence QOL significantly(p<0.05).Self-management efficacy,education level and occupation entered the regression equation.Conclusions:1.The self-management efficacy questionnaire for glaucoma patients developed in this study had good reliability and validity,and can be used as an effective tool for clinical workers to evaluate the self-management efficacy of glaucoma patients.2.Self-management efficacy is one of the factors influencing the QOL of glaucoma patients.Nurses should focus on the self-management efficacy of glaucoma patients.Furthermore,nurses can help patients protect their existing visual function and improve their QOL.
