The Research On The Public Health Nurses In The Period Of Nanjing Nationalist Government(1927-1937)

Originally,the profession of public health nurse was the product of the development of public health in the West.Along with modern Chinese and Western cultural exchanges,the concept of modern public health has been continuously introduced into Chinese society.With the development of medical and health care in China,public health undertakings continue to advance in the society,and the demand for professional public health nurses was increasing day by day.During this period,the government of China and some social elites gradually realized the importance of cultivating talents for public health nurses.The conditions for the cultivation of public health nurses in Chinese society are becoming more mature.In the 1920 s,The Senior Nursing School of PUMC,in cooperation with The First Special Health Station of Peking launched the first training course for the training of public health nurses.It marked the beginning of the emergence of specialized public health nurses in China.After the establishment of the Nanjing Nationalist Government,with the development of public health work across the country,public health nurse groups have gradually formed and continued to develop.Most of the public health nurse groups during the NanjingNationalist Government came from public health nurse training courses run by the government.In the same time,some private nurse schools,midwifery schools,and social organizations had also begun to train such talents.Because uniform training standards have not yet been formed during this period,the public health nurses trained in different regions have different educational levels.From the perspective of gender composition,the composition of this group is mainly female members.In terms of group distribution,due to the different progress of public health undertakings in various places,and the limited scale of public health nurse groups themselves,the distribution of public health nurse groups in this period is still uneven.As a special occupation group,public health nurses are actively engaged in various public health construction work in society.These activities include health education,prevention and treatment of diseases,maternal and child health,and environmental health.Through the active participation of the public health nurse community,these activities have developed to varying degrees in some cities and some villages.Various activities of the public health nurse group promoted the development of China’s medical and healthconstruction cause.At the same time,it had also promoted the improvement of Chinese social customs and the related cause.Although the development of the public health nurse group was limited,and its functions were also not fully utilized during this period,the activities of the public health nurse group still laid a foundation for the development of China’s public health undertakings.
