ObjectiveMounting domestic and foreign studies have shown that there is a certain relationship between sleep quality and cognitive function.long-term sleep disorders can lead to extensive impairment of cognitive function [1].However,there are few studies on the elderly patients with hypertension in China,so this study aims to explore the effects of sleep quality on cognitive impairment in the elderlly patients with hypertension.Method150 patients with hypertension were selected from January 2019 to october 2019 in the geriatrics department of the first affiliated hospital of the university of science and technology in china. The subjects were divided into normal cognitive function group(MMSE score: illiterate,>17;primary school,>20;middle school and above,>24;n=86)and cognitive impairment group(MMSE score: illiterate,?17;primary school,?20;middle school and above,?24;n =64).general data of patients including age, sex, education, smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension course, systolic pressure level, diastolic pressure level, fasting blood glucose(FBG),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL)and sleep quality index(Pittsburgh sleep quality index,PSQI)were collected. We used SPSS 16.0 software for statistical analysis,t-text for skewed continuous data, and chi-square test for categorical data.Multivariable logistic regression model was used to analyze the effects of sleep quality on cognitive impairment in the elderlly patients with hypertension;Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the parameters of PSQI and MMSE.Results150 patients completed all data collection and were included in this cross-sectional study.(1)The cognitive function score of the elderly patients with hypertension was24.11±3.81,and the incidence of cognitive impairment was 42.67%;(2)There were significant differences in the systolic pressure level,LDL and sleep quality index scores between the two groups(P <0.05)and there were not significant differences in theage, sex, education, smoking, alcohol consumption, course of hypertension, diastolic blood pressure level,FBG,TC and TG between the two groups(P >0.05);(3)Multivariable logistic regression showed that the sleep quality and cognitive function of the elderly patients with hypertension were negatively correlated(P<0.05).(4)Pearson correlation analysis suggested that sleep time was negatively correlated with understanding, sleep disorders were negatively correlated with naming, hypnotic drug use was negatively correlated with delayed recall, and daytimedysfunction was negatively correlated with visual spatial executive power.ConclusionThis study found that sleep quality index was negatively correlated with cognitive function in elderly patients with hypertension.this study suggests that poor sleep quality is one of the independent risk factors for cognitive impairment in elderly patients with hypertension.however, this study is a cross-sectional study, the results have some limitations and still need to be confirmed by more large sample prospective cohort studies.
