Wisteria sinensis belongs to the Genus Wisteria of Family Leguminosae. It is also known as tengluo, zhuteng, geteng, huangxianteng, zhaodouteng, yanbandou, etc.Wisteria sinensis is widely cultivated in gardens because its flowers are very popular with Chinese people for their lushness and aroma. In addition to being used as a landscaping plant, the potential of Wisteria sinensis in medicine has also been gradually discovered.According to the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, the barks of Wisteria sinensis has the effects of reducing edema and paralysis, and can be used to treat tsutsugamushi disease with a little toxicity.Especially, previous studies have shown that the galls of Wisteria sinensis have insecticidal, analgesic, and detoxifying effects, and can be used to treat hepatitis, gastric cancer, breast cancer, and skin cancer. In addition,it also have a role in resisting crop pathogenic fungi in agriculture. But due to the limited output,it is difficult to apply a large amount to the clinic. So the bioactive ingredient corresponding to their therapeutic effects is not clear. It has been found that the chemical components of the stems and galls of Wisteria sinensis are similar, such as a seriers of structurally identical saponins. So whether the stems can be used as herbs instead of the galls of Wisteria sinensis is worth further research, because the resources of the stems are much richer than those of galls. In order to investigate the bioactive compounds of the stems and/or galls of Wisteria sinensis,a systematic phytochemical studywas performed on these stems, which were collected from Qichun,Hubei. From the stems of Wisteria sinensis,32 pure compounds were obtained by the methods of a series of chromatography technolohies, and the structures of which were identified by their physico-chemical constants and spectral datas.Their structures were elucidated to be salicylic acid(ZT-1),methyl 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzoate(ZT-2),2,4-di-tert-butylphenol(ZT-3),luteolin(ZT-4),7,3',4'-trihydroxyflavone(ZT-5),3,3',4',7-Tetrahydroxyflavone(ZT-6),7,3',4'-Trihydroxyisoflavanone(ZT-7),formononetin(ZT-8),afromosin(ZT-9),prunetin(ZT-10),biochanin A(ZT-11),gliricidin(ZT-12),8-O-methylretusin(ZT-13),tectorigenin-7-O-?-D-(6"-O-acetyl)-glucoside(ZT-14),tectoridin(ZT-15),genistin(ZT-16),sissotrin(ZT-17),ononin(ZT-18),kakkanin(ZT-19),kushenol O(ZT-20),isookanin(ZT-21),fustin(ZT-22),calythropsin(ZT-23),rhusopolyphenol D(ZT-24),a,3,4,2',4'-pentahydroxydihydrochalcone(ZT-25),guaiacyl-glycerol-?-O-4'-coniferylether(ZT-26),isolariciresinol(ZT-27),3'-methoxy-4,7,9,9'-tetrahydroxy-8-O-4'-neolignan(ZT-28),syringaresinol(ZT-29),dihydrodehydrodiconiferyl alcohol-4'-O-?-D-glucoside(ZT-30),3,3',5-trimethoxy-4',7-epoxy-8,5'-neolignan-4,9,9'-triol-4-?-D-glucopyranoside(ZT-31),ziyuglycosides ?(ZT-32).Among them, compound ZT-14 is a new compound, and compounds ZT-2,ZT-3,ZT-5,ZT-6,ZT-7,ZT-10,ZT-12,ZT-14,ZT-15,ZT-16,ZT-17,ZT-19,ZT-20,ZT-21,ZT-22,ZT-23,ZT-24,ZT-25,ZT-26,ZT-27,ZT-28,ZT-30,ZT-31,ZT-32 were obtained from the genus Wisteria for the first time.In this paper, the chemical constituents of stems of Wisteria sinensis were systematically investigated, which may provide compounds for the future screening of the valuable drug candidate from this herb.
