Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ERCP in patients 65 years of age or older. Methods All ERCPs about 1103 patients performed from August 2014 to February 2018 at our endoscopy unit were retrospectively reviewed.According to difference of age divide them into two groups, the people younger than 65 years as non-elderly group about 430 patients and 65 years or older as elderly group about 673 patients. The primary disease,ERCP procedures, success rate and complications were analyzed. Results The one-time success rate of non-elderly group about 84.4%higher than elderly group about 74.2%(p<0.05).The success rate of ERCP between the two groups was not statistically significant(p>0.05).There was no statistically significant in the incidence of complication between the elderly group about 6.3%and the non-elderly group about 8.0%(p>0.05).Multivariate analyses show that age is not influence the success of ERCP and is not increase the risk of complications.ConclusionsAge is not a factor that affects the efficacy of ERCP and causes complications.ERCP is a safe and effective intervention in patients aged 65 years or older.
