ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D3[25(OH)D3]and type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN).MethodsAccording to the retrospective analysis of clinical data collected from 46 patients with type 2 diabetes, those patients were divided into DPN group(with peripheral neuropathy)and NDPN group(with type 2 diabetes alone). The levels of 25(OH)D3 were compared between two groups along with the course of disease, age, fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin and other related indexes.Results(1)The 25(OH)D3 level in the DPN group was(18.27±4.48)ng/mL,which was lower than the level in NDPN group(24.55±6.68)ng/mL(P<0.05);(2)There was no significant correlation observed between the 25(OH)D3 level and the patient's course of disease, age, and glycosylated hemoglobin level(P>0.05).(3)The independent variables of type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy were age, glycosylated hemoglobin, course of disease, and serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3.Among them, the glycosylated hemoglobin and the course of disease were negatively correlated, and the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 was positively correlated, showing a noteworthy statistical significance(P<0.05).ConclusionThe serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 level in patients with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy is lower than that in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus alone, and the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 is closely correlated with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.Low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 is a risk factor for type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
