A Preliminary Study On The Characteristics Of Lan Mao's Treatment Of Phlegm Syndrome

Objective:Based on the discrimination of phlegm syndrome and the induction and arrangement of prescription for treating phlegm in "Yunnan Southern Materia Medica" and "Yimen Lanyao" written by LanMao in Ming dynasty,this paper summarizes and analyzes LanMao's prescription ideas and characteristics of medication for the treatment of phlegm syndrome,so as to make better use in clinical practice.Methods:The methods of literature collation and statistical analysis were used to study it.Firstly,the author studied,generalized,sorted out and summarized the relevant theories on the treatment of phlegm syndrome in LanMao's "Yunnan Southern Materia Medica" and "Yimen Lanyao".Secondly,the relevant prescriptions and traditional chinese medicines for the treatment of phlegm syndrome in "Yunnan Southern Materia Medica" and "Yimen Lanyao" were recorded in excel to collate them and do some statistics.Then,the preliminary statistical results of the prescriptions for the treatment of phlegm syndrome were recorded into the ancient and modern medical cases cloud platform v2.1.Statistical analysises were carried out on the frequency,four characters(FC),five tastes(FT)and channel distributions of herbs.Then the characteristics of LanMao's treatment of phlegm syndrome were summarized.Results:1.The related diseases that LanMao treated based on phlegm involved internal,external,gynecology department,pediatric department and andrology department,etc.Among which the common clinical diseases include apoplexy,mania,tremor,panic,malaria,cough,scrofula,headache,epigastric pain,spermatorrhea and other phlegm-related diseases.2.The following conclusions are drawn based on the statistics of prescriptions and herbs about phlegm syndrome in "Yimen Lanyao".(1)Among these prescriptions,suan fan fan hu wan was used for 4 times at most,and the second frequently used prescription was shi quan da bu decoction,buzhong decoction,xiangsha liujun decoction and sijun decoction,which all invigorat spleen and supplement qi.The third frequently used prescription was liuwei decoction,Jinkui Shenqi Bolus,eight immortal longevity decoction,they are the key to tonify the kidney.(2)According to the statistics of the functional frequency of 34 prescriptions and 126 herbs related to the treatment of phlegm,it was found that the frequency of herbs with the effect of inducing diuresis and excreting dampness was 30 times,ranking the first.The frequency of herbs act on engendering liquid and nourishing blood was 28 times,ranking the second.The third frequency of herbs act on invigorating spleen was 25 times.The herb acting on drying dampness and resolving phlegm was used 24 times,ranking the fourth.In addition,tonifying spleen and qi and relieving cough and reducing sputum herbs were both used 21 times.Invigorating spleen and tonifying qi,benefiting spleen and lung,reinforcing vital energy drugs were all used 19 times.(3)The statistical results of four characters(FC),five tastes(FT)and channel distributions of herbs are as follows: the occurrence frequency of warm and hot herbs in four characters(FC)were 209 times,accounting for 52.5% of the total398 times.Then the five tastes of the drug were mainly sweet,spicy and bitter,which were 207 times,190 times and 174 times respectively,accounting for 31.6%,28.96%and 26.52% of the total frequency of 656 times.According to the classification of channel tropism,the spleen meridian was the most frequently used for the treatment of phlegm-related drugs(248 times).The second was the lung meridian appearing 184 times,the frequency of heart meridian was 154 times,the stomach meridian 132 times,liver meridian 127 times and kidney channel 125 times.3.Based on the statistics of the data on sputum treatment drug in "Yunnan Southern Materia Medica",there are 120 kinds of herbs that can cure phlegm among the 544 kinds of herbs in this book,accounting for 22.06% of the book,and these sputum treatment herbs are classified into 12 types.Respectively,there are 36 kinds of herbs for treating hot-phlegm,25 kinds of herbs for treating pyrophlegm,15 kinds of herbs for treating wind phlegm,14 kinds of herbs for treating cold phlegm.There are 8 kinds of herbs for curing blood phlegm and old phlegm respectively,6 kinds of herbs for treating wet phlegm,3 kinds of herbs for treating phlegm malaria,2 kinds of herbs for treating virtual phlegm,there is one kind of herb for curing alcoholic phlegm,acid phlegm and malnutrition phlegm respectively.According to the classification of four characters(FC)and five tastes(FT),the frequency of four characters about phlegm drugs are as follows,the frequency of warm phlegm drug is35 times,cold phlegm drug is 32 times,the mild phlegm herb is 23 times,hot and cool phlegm drug are both one time.Among the five tastes of phlegm drugs,sweet taste appeared the most frequently(47 times),and then bitterness appeared 42 times,spicy taste 36 times,sour taste 12 times,salty and light taste were both 3 times.Conclusion:1.On the etiology and pathogenesis of phlegm syndrome,Lan Mao believed that spleen deficiency,kidney deficiency,qi deficiency,qi stagnation and improper diet could all produce phlegm,and he paid special attention to the role of spleen and kidney deficiency and dysfunction in the process of phlegm formation.2.In the treatment of phlegm syndrome,Lan Mao does not to see phlegm thenresolve phlegm,but through the overall grasp of the nature of the disease,made the syndrome differentiation,and then gave prescription medication.Lan Mao pays attention to healthy qi,he thought that qi should be controlled first and emphasized "see phlegm don't treat phlegm,making qi healthy and phlegm will dissolve on their own." He paid attention to the spleen and kidney and made good use of warm tonic,but he is not "pretty tonic" and "stubborn tonic".According to the disease needs,he also use cooling therapy,emetic therapy and other treatment.For the complex condition,in which the phlegm syndrome was mixed with excessiveness and deficiency,his proposal was curing through staged,that was vomit then adjustment.3.Lan Mao used more herbs that invigorating spleen to remove phlem,which showed pungent,sweet and warm in nature,reflecting his thought of warming and invigorating the spleen and kidney.And he made good use of food therapy drugs,prevention and treatment of phlegm syndrome.By summarizing the experiences and characteristics of Lan Mao in treating phlegm syndrome,this paper enriches the academic thought of Lan Mao,deepens our understanding of treating phlegm syndrome,applies it to clinical dialectic,and improves the clinical curative effect.
