Background and PurposeThe pathogenesis of depression disorder remains unclear. In recent years, increasing evidence has demonstrated that inflammation is associated with depression disorder.Complement system as an important factor of innate immunity is also an assumptive mechanism of depression disorder.Studies have demonstrated that some complement factors may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of depression disorder.Clq is the first sub-component of the classical pathway of complement activation in a variety of various complement factors. In addition, thyroid function can interact with complement system in immune and inflammatory fields. However, there are few studies and no conclusions. In this study, the role of C1q and thyroid hormones in the pathogenesis of depression was explored through the detection,multi-dimensional comparison and correlation analysis of serum C1q and Free Triiodothylamine?FT3?,Free Thyroxine?FT4?and and Thyrotropic Hormone?TSH?in patients with depression.MethodsThis study was a retrospective trial.Sequential included 275 inpatients with depression who met the admission criteria and exclusion criteria in the department of clinical psychology in The Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital from January 2016 to December2018,as depression group.Match the people who make physical examination in medical examination centre of The Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital at the same time,as healthy control group. The depression group was divided into the following groups according to different factors:?1?gender:male group;female groups;?2?age:youth group?18-40 years old?;Middle-age group?41-65 years old?;?3?course:disease course<1 year group;disease course 1-5 years group;disease course>5 years group.?4?degree of depression?HAMD-17 score?:mild degree?HAMD score 7-17?,medium degree?HAMD score 18-24?,severe degree?HAMD score>24?.The healthy control group was divided into the following groups according to different factors:?1?gender:male group, female group.Age:?2?age:youth group?18-40 years old?,middle aged group?41-65 years old?.Serum index,HAMD-17 scale score and general demographic data were collected. To compare the difference of serum index between depression group and healthy control group, and to compare the difference and correlation of serum index in different age,sex and disease course in depression group. Finally, factors significantly associated with the onset of depression were screened by binary Logisitc regression, and thyroid hormones significantly associated with C1q were screened by partial correlation analysis to explore the interaction between the others.Results1.Comparison of serum indicators between depression group and healthy control group:?1?Serum levels of C1q,FT3and TSH in depression group were significantly lower than those in healthy control group?P<0.01?,there was no difference in FT4level between the two groups?P>0.05?.?2?In gender comparison, the serum C1q level of male and female patients with depression was lower than that of healthy subjects?P<0.01?.There was no difference in serum FT3,FT4,and TSH levels between the male and female groups in patients with depression and healthy subjects?P>0.05?.?3?In the age comparison, the serum C1q levels of the youth and middle-age groups of depressed patients were lower than those of the healthy subjects?P<0.01?.There was no difference in serum FT3,FT4and TSH levels between depressed patients and healthy subjects in young and middle-age groups?P>0.05?.2.Comparison of serum indicators under various influencing factors in the depression group:?1?In the gender group, serum C1q level in the male group was significantly lower than that in the female group?P<0.01?;serum FT3level was significantly higher than female group?P<0.01?.Serum FT4level was lower than female group?P<0.05?;serum TSH level was lower female group?P<0.05?.?2?In the age group, serum FT3level of the youth group was significantly higher than that in middle-age group?P<0.01?,with no differences in serum levels of C1q,FT4and TSH?P>0.05?.?3?In the disease course group, serum levels of C1q,FT3,FT4and TSH in the disease course<1 year group, the disease course1-5 years group and the disease course>5 years group were not statistically significant?P>0.05?.3.Correlation analysis of serum C1q level with thyroid hormone and other factors:Logistic regression analysis showed that decrease of C1q,FT3and TSH were risk factors for depression?P<0.01?.Linear regression analysis showed that serum levels of C1q,FT3,FT4and TSH were not correlated with HAMD scores?P>0.05?.In patients with depression, serum C1q level was correlated with serum FT3level after controlling for gender, age, disease course and degree of depression?r=0.143,P=0.02?,while serum C1q level was not correlated with FT4and TSH levels after controlling for gender, age, disease course and degree of depression?P>0.05?.ConclusionC1q and thyroid hormone may be involved in the development of depression, which needs to be further confirmed by further studies.Decreased serum levels of C1q,FT3and TSH were the risk factors of depression. There may be interaction between C1q and thyroid hormone in the pathogenesis of depression. The levels of serum C1q,FT3,FT4and TSH in patients with depression may be affected by gender differences.Serum FT3levels in depressed patients may be influenced by age differences.
