| Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare biologic mesh with synthetic mesh in the Lichtenstein repair for inguinal hernia. Methods:A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was undertaken to identify studies comparing the outcomes of biologic mesh and synthetic mesh in the Lichtenstein repair for inguinal hernia.Such datebases as CNKI,CBM,WangFang Medical Network,VIP,PubMed,EmBase and The Cochr-ane Library were retrieved for published documents from inception to November,2019.Referenes of the included documents were also retrieved.RevMan 5.3software was used to analyze the date. Results: Finally,a total of 781 patients in eight randomized controlled trials were reviewed(382 patients in biologic mesh group;399 patients in synthetic mesh group).Compared with synthetic mesh, biologic mesh can reduce postoperative chronic pain [or = 0.59,95% CI(0.34-1.01),P = 0.05],and foreign body sensation[OR=0.13,95%CI(0.05-0.35),P<0.05].The two groups did not significantly differ in recurrence[OR=1.46,95%CI(0.44-4.88),P=0.53]or infection[OR=0.38,95%CI(0.07-1.99),P=0.25].There was no significant difference in hematoma[OR=1.69,95%CI(0.73-3.89),P=0.22] or testicular complications[OR=1.25,95%CI(0.12-13.29),P=0.85] between the two groups. Conclusion:From the data of this study, biologic mesh had some superiority to synthetic mesh in Lichtenstein hernia repair with lesser incidence of chronic groin pain and foreign body sensation, but higher rate of seroma.Clinicians need to pay attention to these problems in work. |
