Background: Burns are one of the most common accidental injuries in children and the third leading cause of death among children in developing countries. In countries around the world, children account for a large proportion of patients admitted to hospitals, bringing long-term psychological and financial burdens to families and society.Due to the growth characteristics of a certain age group, pediatric burns are different from the epidemiological characteristics of adult burns.A retrospective study of burn epidemiology can summarize the clinical features of pediatric burns, summarize the epidemiological characteristics, and propose preventive measures in a targeted manner to reduce the incidence and disability rate of burns in children. Objective: To retrospective analysis of clinical data of children with burns in a burn center in Shanghai from 2005 to 2016,summarize its epidemiological characteristics and analyze trends, and provide a clinical reference for the prevention of burns in children in this area.Method:According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the clinical data of 921 burn patients aged 14 years and younger who were hospitalized in a burn center in Shanghai from January 2005 to December 2016 were collected according to gender, age, burn time, burn site, cause of injury, the burn area, burn region and other factors were classified and the epidemiological characteristics and trends of pediatric burns were summarized and statistically tested. Results: Between 2005 and 2016,burn children less than or equal to 14 years old accounted for 23.16%(921/3976)of all burn patients, and the proportion of burned children increased during the 12 years(?2=42.186 P<0.05).The ratio of male to female was 1.4.: 1(548 / 373),the mean age was 3.30 ± 3.11 years, the median length of hospital stay was 10 days, and only 3 children died.In 12 years, the month of hospitalization for burns was May(101,10.97%),and the most season was spring(286,31.05%);on the contrary,November(56,6.08%)and winter(196,21.28)%).There was no significant change in the mean age of children with burns in 12 years(F=1.590,P>0.05).Most patients were less than 5 years old,and the most children were 1 year old, accounting for 28.99%.After the age of 2,the number of children with burns gradually decreases with age.Up to 88.57%(811/921)of the children were burned at home, followed by outdoor(4.89%),public places(3.80%),industrial sites(1.74%),and a small number of burned children on the road(10,1.09%).Common burn types are burns, flame burns, thermal contact, electric burns, chemical burns, etc. The median burn area of children with burns was 8% TBSA,and there was no significant difference in the median burn area between 12 years(?2=17.049,P>0.05).The burn area of 54.29% of children was less than 10% TBSA.The main burn region of pediatric burns is the trunk, accounting for 52.55%,followed by the upper limbs(43.54%),the lower limbs(40.50%),and the face(32,30%).The median length of hospital stay showed a significant decrease in 12 years(?2=67.532,P<0.05).Research conclusions: Pediatric burns were an important part of the clinical treatment of burns.Spring was the high season for children's burns. It was more common in infants and young children aged 1-2 years.Boys were more than girls, and the main type of burns was scold, which usually occured at home.A small area of burns, the main part was the trunk. In recent years, the proportion of burned children in the total number of hospitalized patients had gradually increased, and the proportion of younger people had increased, and the average area had increased.Explain that the problem of burns in children was becoming increasingly prominent Therefore, this study suggests that in view of the aforementioned characteristics of pediatric burns,in the prevention and mission work,it was important to strengthen the awareness of burn protection for families with children under 5 years of age, especially to protect the 1-2 year old boy;Strengthen care,be careful not to burn your child. This should effectively reduce the incidence of burns in children.
