Clinical Application Of Irregular Z-plasty For Correction Of Epicanthus

Objective:The results of Z-plasty for correction of epicanthus were evaluated based on eyelid measurements and patient satisfaction.Methods:twenty-seven patients,aged 18-37 years(mean 25.48 years),underwent irregular z-plasty for epicanthus in the same First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December 2018 to January 2020,the follow-up period ranged from 6 months to 13 months(mean 8.33 months).The epicanthus type of the above patients was eyelid type or tarsal type.The distance between the inner canthus(ICD),horizontal lid fissure length(HLFL),the distance between the inner canthus and horizontal lid fissure length(ICD/HLFL),and the patients'satisfaction were measured before and after the operation to evaluate the correction effect of epicanthus.Results:The operation obtained the similar distance of palpebral fissure and the distance of inner canthus,fully exposed lacrimal caruncle and lengthened horizontal fissure,and got the ideal natural appearance in cosmetology.In addition,when double eyelid surgery is performed simultaneously,it does not limit the appearance of the double eyelid.Our modified irregular z-plasty can completely correct the epicanthus with a simple and flexible design,and it can be adjusted to the desired double eyelid shape,compared with the patients before and after treatment ICD,HLFL,ICD/HLFL were found to be p<0.05,the difference was statistically significant.Conclusion:Irregular Z-plasty is an effective method for correction of epicanthus,which is suitable for epicanthus of various degrees.
