Objectives: To investigate the factors influencing the signs of pleural thickening in healthy adults and reduce the false positive rate of pleural thickening in X-ray chest radiographs. Methods: From June 2016 to September 2019,64 inpatients diagnosed with pleural thickening were selected from the first affiliated hospital of xinjiang medical university for chest X-ray examination, and no signs of pleural thickening were found in the plain CT examination of the chest within one week.Group B was assigned to the 67 inpatients whose chest X-ray examination results and chest CT plain scan results within the following week showed no signs of pleural thickening. The subcutaneous fat, body mass index, thoracic diameter ratio, gender, age and other detection indexes of the two groups were analyzed to study the factors influencing the signs of pleural thickening in X-ray chest films. Results: Pleural thickening was 1.478 times more likely to occur with1 unit increase in body mass index. The probability of pleural thickening was 12.845 times higher when subcutaneous fat thickness increased by 1 unit. The probability of pleural thickening was 2.995 times higher when subcutaneous abdominal fat thickness increased by 1 unit. The probability of pleural thickening was 1.031 times higher than that of the previous age.Women were 0.115 times more likely than men to show signs of pleural thickening.Suggesting that men are more prone to pleural thickening. The probability of pleural thickening was 21.655 times higher when the ratio of anterior to posterior/lateral diametral of the thorax increased by 1 unit. Conclusion: The appearance of pleural thickening on chest X-ray was related to subcutaneous fat, body mass index, thoracic diameter ratio, gender, age and other detection indicators. The thicker the subcutaneous fat was,the higher the body mass index was,and the older the patient was,the more likely the chest X-ray was to show signs of pleural thickening. The smaller the ratio(anteroposterior diameter of the thorax/left and right diameter of the thorax)was, the more likely the chest X-ray was to show signs of pleural thickening.Men are more likely to show signs of pleural thickening on X-ray than women.
