Objective To investigate the changes of etiology and complications of liver cirrhosis(LC)through a 5-year comparative study as well as sex distribution and age in LC patients of different etiology. Methods In this retrospective study, these patients with LC hospitalized in 2012 and2017 were admitted and their medical records were reviewed. The etiology included hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection, hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection, alcohol, autoimmune diseases,et al.The complications included upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage(UGH),spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP),hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),hepatic encephalopathy(HE),et al.Every complication was counted alone. We compared the change of etiology and complications as well as the sex composition and age of different etiology in the 5 year to find out the change. Results 3065 patients(including 1451 in 2012 and 1614 in 2017)were identified in this study. The complications occurred in 2012 counted 771 times and 866 times in 2017.Comparing these patients in 2012 with 2017,there was no significant difference in etiology of LC caused by HBV infection which was 56.31%(817/1451)in 2012 and53.41%(862/1614)in 2017(P=0.107),respectively.The composition ratio of alcohol and autoimmune diseases increased, which was 12.96%(188/1451)in 2012 and16.36%(264/1614)in 2017(P=0.008),respectively.The composition ratio of autoimmune diseases increased which was 9.92%(144/1451)in 2012 and 13.07%(211/1614)in2017(P=0.007),respectively.The composition ratio of hepatitis C virus infection decreased, which was 14.82%(215/1451)in 2012 and 11.28%(215/1451)in2017(P=0.004),respectively.The top three complications in 2012 were UGH(29.44%,227/771),HCC(28.79%,222/771),SBP(23.87%,184/771),which were HCC(39.26%,340/866),UGH(24.94%,340/866),SBP(20.56%,340/866)in 2017,respectively.HCC was the most common complication(that was 28.79% in 2012 and39.26% in 2017)(P<0.001).LC caused by HBV infection and alcohol were mainly males, which slightly decreased(P=0.249,P=0.422),respectively.LC caused by autoimmunediseases was mainly female, which slightly increased(P=0.224),respectively.The LC patients infected by HBV as well as HCV were older than before. Those with HBV infection were(50.08±11.11)years old in 2012 and(52.39±11.56)years old in2017(P=0.004),respectively.Those with HCV infection were(57.22±10.52)years old in2012 and(61.13±10.25)years old in 2017(P <0.001),respectively.Conclusions Compared with 5 years later,HBV infection still remained the major cause of LC,whereas alcohol and autoimmune diseases increased and HCV infection decreased.HCC was the most common complication of LC.LC patients caused by different etiologies had different prevalence in sex and were hospitalized in different ages.LC caused by hepatitis B/C virus infection seemed to be older than before.
