Background and purpose: Migraine is a high prevalence neurological disorder, which is often associate with anxiety and depression. The physiopathology is unclear in migraine and its psychological comorbidities. We estimate the grey matter volume in migraine patients with or without mood disorder(including depression or anxiety),and evaluate whether these areas are affected by mood disorder in patients suffering from migraine without aura(MWoA).Materials and methods: Thirty patients with MWoA were divided into two groups according to their Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)score in the present study,including15 in mood disorder + group(HAMA or HAMD ?7)and 15 in the mood disorder-group(HAMA and HAMD<7).Fifteen healthy participants were also recruited as the control group.High resolution volumetric magnetic resonance imaging and voxel-based morphometry were employed to investigate grey matter volume between all patients withMWoA and all healthy controls, between each subgroup(mood disorder +group and mood disorder-group)and healthy controls, and between the mood disorder(+)and mood disorder(-)groups.Results: After corrected by cluster size(FWE correction,P<0.05),there was no significant difference in grey matter volume between patients with migraine and controls,or patients with mood disorder or without mood disorder. Conclusion: In this experiment,we cannot estimate significant grey matter volume change in mood disorder(+)MwoA group or mood disorder(-)MwoA group after corrected by FWE correction. There are a lot of limitations in our experiment.Further exploration should be done after optimizing clinical data.
