Objective : To investigate the correlation between the changes of pupil diameter and postoperative acute pain in postanesthesia care unit after general anethesia, and whether the changes of pupil diameter were effective in evaluating postoperative acute pain after general anesthesia. Methods:The search terms included “pupil” “anaesthesia” “postoperative” and “Pain” in both Chinese and English, and “pupillometry” in English.Chinese and English databases such as PubMed,Embase,The Cochrane Library,Google Scholar,CNKI and WanFang Data were searched from inception to June 2018,and the related references included in the literature were also hand-searched.Two researchers searched and screened the literature separately according to the inclusion and exclusion criteia.Related data were extracted in the same way,and a third author would make a decision when the former two authors couldn't reach an agreement. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale(NOS)was used to assessed the quality of the included cohort studies, and the R software was used for the meta-analysis.Results:A total of six cohort studies were included. The sample size was 492,and ASA grade were I-III.The score of NOS scale indicated that the included studies were 3high-quality and 3 medium-quality literatures.Heterogeneity and publication bias existed among the included studies. The stability of the results was proved by trim and filling method and sensitivity analysis.Meta-analysis showed that the combined correlation coefficient between pupil diameter and postoperative pain r was 0.53 and 95%confidence interval(CI)was(0.02,0.82).Conclusion:The changes of pupil diameter are corrected with postoperative acute pain after general anethesia, which may be an effective indicator for evaluating postoperative acute pain after general anesthesia.Given the limitations of this study, more large-scale studies are needed to verify it.
