Research On Patient-Oriented Hospital Library Service In China

With the continuous development of the society and the improvement of people's living standards,people are paying more and more attention to their own health,and their demands for medical information and health information are gradually increasing.As professional medical libraries,hospital libraries have professional medical materials,abundant medical resources and special librarians.They should play a role in popularizing medical information to patients and even to the public in the process of social development.However,most domestic hospital libraries only serve medical staff or students of their hospitals.Patients cannot fully enjoy the abundant professional medical resources of hospital libraries.In view of the prevalence of such situations,many domestic hospital libraries are actively exploring and finding solutions,but there are few successful cases and few experiences worth sharing.In order to better achieve the goal of patient-oriented hospital library services,the author found out the current situation and problems of patient-oriented service in hospital libraries in China by using telephone interview.According to the results of telephone interview,the problems in patient-oriented services of hospital libraries in China mainly lie in the following aspects: service concept;resource construction;service form and talent construction.According to the problems existing in patient-oriented service of hospital libraries in China and the experience of patient-oriented services in foreign hospital libraries,the author summarized the strategies of patient-oriented service of hospital libraries in China: in the aspect of service concept,a new concept of "people-oriented" should be established to provide targeted services according to different needs of patients.Libraries should change from "waiting for patients" to "coming to the patients actively",libraries should actively serve patients instead of passively letting patients come to the libraries.In the aspect of resource construction,on the basis of patients' study,libraries should integrate the on-line medical resources and establish the database of information resources with the characteristic of each hospital.At the same time,considering the personal demands of patients,libraries should provide a variety of medical and other literature resources.In the aspect of service form,hospital libraries should strengthen the publicity and promotion of libraries,develop new media services,develop reading therapy,hold lectures and other health education activities.In the aspect of talent construction,we should focus on improving the quality of librarians,developing guidance and volunteer services,and creating a distinctive service team.This provides a new idea for expanding the service of hospital libraries in China,and puts forward new requirements for improving the service quality of hospital libraries.This enables hospital libraries to play their roles fully and to contribute to the promotion of public health.
