OBJECTS: Study cardiovascular disease risk of patients with oral lichen planus, and compare it with that of general population,to find potential risk factors of cardiovascular disease and provide the basis for new methods which can reduce the cardiovascular disease risk.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Select 1270 oral lichen planus patients as the experimental objects and the general population as the control group, following the principle of randomized sampling investigation, and the same diagnostic criteria, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria and efficacy evaluation standard.Compare morbidity of cardiovascular disease and serum level of high sensitive C reactive protein of patients with oral lichen planus with that of general population.Compare the difference of serum level of high sensitive C reactive protein of patients with oral lichen planus before and after treatment.RESULTS: Prevalences of hypertension, coronary heart disease, and stroke in patients with oral lichen planus(24.15%,2.88%,2.18% respectively)were higher than those of the general population(18.80%,2.62%,1.11%respectively)(p< 0.01),and the ORs were 1.372,1.101,and 1.944 respectively. The mean levels of serum high sensitive C reactive protein of 220 healthy people and 119 patients with oral lichen planus were 0.71 mg/L and1.58 mg/L respectively(p< 0.001).The mean levels of serum high sensitive C reactive protein of 81 patients who had not experienced any treatment and 18 patients whose conditions had been improved were 1.73 mg/L and 0.92 mg/L(p = 0.897).CONCLUSIONS: Patients with oral lichen planus have more risk in hypertension, coronary heart disease, and stroke than general population.
