Characteristic Of Severe Burn And Its Tendancy In Last 12 Years

Objective: The characteristics of severe burn were studied by epidemiological research for providing the reliable basis of the discipline of burns management in near future.Methods: A retrospective study by reviewed the dates of severe burn patients admitted to the burn center in last 12 years,between 1st January 2005 and 31 st December 2016.The study explored the characteristics and tendency of the patients.Results: 882 severe burn patients were enrolled in this study,including 771 male and 171 female,the proportion of female patients was increasing.The mean age was(41.23±13.43)and was increasing significantly.The median burn area was 51%TBSA.The majority of injuries occurred at workplace while patients injuried at home were increasing.Flames remained the main cause of severe burn,followed by hydrothermal,chemical and other reasons.There is no significant difference between the groups of referral or local patients in age or male-to-female ratio.But the patients in group referral had larger burn area and full thickness burn area and the incidence of inhalation,followed by longer ICU stay and higher mortality.Severe inhalation injury occurred most frequently at workplace.From 2005 to 2009,the incidence of patients accompanying inhalation injury was increasing but remained steady from 2010 to 2015 and peaked in 2016.The mortality of severe burn patients was increasing.Conclusion: The study shows that the male-to-female ratio in morbidity of severe burn decreased,incidence of burn injury at home was increasing,.Burn prevention education is pressing issue for the burn center.With the rapid development of economy,a large burn center is in urgent need to change the all-in-one mode to ‘a planet-satellite' mode.Establishing more effective education and transportion system to link burn center and local hospital.Meanwhile,building an efficient rehabilitation system for recovered patients to relieve the burden on family and society,and to bring more patients back to society and their occupations.
