Objective To investigate the relationship between intraocular pressure(IOP)and ocular parameters and systemic factors in school-age children. Methods A total of 1768 children, aged 6 to 11 years, were selected from a primary school in Yongchuan District,Chongqing.Refraction was measured under cycloplegia with autorefraction and retinoscopy. The corneal thickness was measured by AL-Scan,and IOP was measured by non-contact tonometer. The height and weight of each child were measured.Only the right eyes were included in the analysis. The children were divided into groups according to gender,BMI and refractive status.SPSS22.0 was used to analyze the data. Results The average IOP values of male were 17.83±2.84 mmHg,while female 18.24±2.96 mmHg,the difference was statistically significant(P=0.003).The mean IOP were 17.77±2.93 mmHg in hyperopic group,18.29±2.82 mmHg in emmetropic group,18.45±2.82 mmHg in mild myopic group, and 18.91±3.11 mmHg in moderate myopic group. The IOP in theemmetropic and mild to moderate myopic group were significantly higher than that in the hyperopic group(P<0.05).The IOP values in the normal group were 18.01±2.90 mmHg,the overweight group were 18.40±2.86 mmHg,and obesity group were 17.86±3.00 mmHg,There was no significant difference among the three groups(p=0.456).After multiple linear regression analysis, the results showed that age(p=0.005),gender(p<0.001),corneal thickness(p<0.001),and refractive values(p=0.006)were associated with intraocular pressure, while height, weight, and BMI were not related to intraocular pressure. Conclusions The intraocular pressure of school-age children were related to age, gender, corneal thickness and refractive status.
