At present,poverty due to illness caused by disease has become a social sickness ill.Among the people who are poor caused by disease due to illness,the elderly in the western rural areas are vulnerable to the risk of major diseases due to the constraint of their multiple living conditions,health stocks,social capital and other conditions,and they have become high-risk groups due to illness.Therefore,it is very practical to study the mechanism,main influencing factors and governance path of poverty among the elderly in western rural areas.This paper firstly reviews the domestic and international research status of poverty caused by disease from six aspects,including.These include: evolution of the problem disease-induced poverty,concept definition and specific measures,impact effects,influencing factors and governance strategies.Secondly,based on the perspective of social support,this paper discussesed the principle of the poverty caused by disease among the elderly in the western rural areas.That is,poverty caused by disease due to illness is not only the result of risk shock,but also the result of insufficient social support.The transmission pathway for poverty due to disease is “External risk shocks(health risks,economic risks)– inadequate social support(social networks,social resources and social capital)– the consequences of poverty due to illness(poor poverty due to illness,illness due to poverty as well as and poverty and disease)”.Thirdly,through the statistical description and the logistic regression analysis of the data of 1072 elderly people in nine counties of the three western provinces,this article has the following findings:(1)The health status of the elderly in the western rural areas is pessimistic not optimistic,and the incidence of poverty due to illness is high and the degree of occurrence is deep.(2)The age,education years,depression tendency,self-care status,and chronic disease factors of the elderly in rural western China have significant effects on poverty caused by disease.(3)From the perspective of social network support,the economic situation of their family children,the number of relatives and friends,the relationship with relatives and friends,and the current place of residence have significantly influenced affected the elderly who become poor caused by disease in the western rural areas to become poor due to illness.(4)From the perspective of social resources support,factors such as the number of relatives,frequent contact with relatives and friends,old-age allowance,medical insurance,medical institution services,and political participation have significantly affected the elderly who become poor caused by disease in the western rural areas to become poor due to illness.(5)From the perspective of social capital support,family's economic support,financial support from relatives and friends,pension support,and government transfer payment support have significantly affected elderly people who become poor caused by disease in the western rural areas to become poor due to illness.Finally,based on the results of empirical analysis and the specific social situation in rural areas of western China,this paper proposes the governance path of governance for the elderly in rural areas in western China.
