Objective: To establish the Chinese version of the Patient and Physician Version of the California Pharmacotherapy Alliance Scale and verify its reliability and validity in the population of patients with mental illness and their beds physicians.Besides,the study aims,also,to find influcing factors which affect both therapists’ and patients’ attitudes towards the working alliance.Methods: Translating both the Patient and Physician Version of the California Pharmacotherapy Alliance Scale into Chinese and retranslating them into English.Selecting 310 pair patients with mental disorders and their bed physicians by the random sampling method in the Shanghai Mental Health Center to fill in the questionnaires.Among the patients,163 were males and 147 were females.Randomly selected 30 patients and their physicians and retested them after a week.SPSS was used to analyze data.The Cronbach ’s α coefficient and the retest reliability were used to describe the reliability of scales.The validity of the scale was used as the validity index.Results:(1)Cronbach ’s alpha coefficient of the patient and physician version of the California Pharmacotherapy Alliance Scale was 0.865 and 0.849 independently;Cronbach ’s alpha coefficient of the patient and physician version of the Working Alliance Inventory was 0.900 and 0.911 independently.(2)The retest reliability of the patient and physician version of the California Pharmacotherapy Alliance Scale were 0.640 and 0.605;The retest reliability of the patient and physician version of the Working Alliance Inventory was 0.865 and 0.792.(3)Whether patients have physical insurance and they had been injected with sedative or not affect the score of California Pharmacotherapy Alliance Scale patient version significantly and the former affect the score of Working Alliance Inventory Client version.Therapists’ educational background,the BPRS score,the course of disease and length of hospitalization and patients sexuality affect the score of therapist version significantly.Conclusion: Both the patient and physician version of the California Pharmaceutical Alliance Scale meet the basic requirements of measurement and can be used to evaluate the working alliance between clinical patients and their bed physicians.
