Objective Cariostat test was used to detect the changes of caries activity in children with fixed orthodontic treatment, and to explore whether children with fixed orthodontic treatment and intentional choice of fixed orthodontic treatment were at high risk of caries. In order to develop a personalized and effective caries prevention program, reduce the complications and adverse consequences of caries during orthodontic treatment.Methods44 orthodontic patients(11-14 years old)with permanent dentition were randomly selected and treated with edgewise arch fixed appliance.Statistical analysis was carried out by SPSS21.0 statistical software.1.Oral examination: The subjects were examined before and 1month,3 months and 6 months after the fixed appliance was worn, and calculate the DMFT.2.Detection of caries activity: Caries activity test(CAT)was used before and 1 month,3months and 6 months after the fixed appliance was worn. And get the CAT value.CAT value?1.5 express high risk of caries.CAT value?1.0 express low risk of caries.3.Statistical analysis: SPSS21.0 statistical software was used for statistical analysis. The measurement data were expressed as ?x±S.The variance analysis of repeated measurement design(F test)was carried out.Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between CAT value and DMFT.The test standard was alpha = 0.05,P < 0.05 was the significant difference. Results 1.General situation: This study investigated 44 children aged 11-14 wearing fixed appliance, including 18 males and 26 females. There was no significant difference in CAT value and DMFT before and after wearing fixed appliance between different genders(P > 0.05).2.Changes in the number of people at different risk of caries in fixed orthodontics: 19(43.18%)were at high risk of caries before wearing fixed appliance,17(38.64%)1 month after wearing fixed appliance,36(81.82%)3 months after wearing fixed appliance,37(84.09%)6 months after wearing fixed appliance,25(56.82%)were at low risk of caries before wearing fixed appliance,27(61.36%)1 month after wearing fixed appliance, and 8 people after 3 months.(18.18%)and 7(15.91%)in 6 months. After wearing fixed appliance, the number of people at high risk of caries showed an upward trend,on the contrary, the number of people at low risk of caries showed a downward trend.3.Changes of CAT value and DMFT in fixed orthodontics: There was no significant difference in CAT value between one month after wearing fixed appliance and before wearing fixed appliance(P > 0.05).The CAT value in three months after wearing fixed appliance was higher than that before wearing and one month after wearing fixed appliance(P < 0.05).The CAT value in six months after wearing fixed appliance was higher than that before wearing, one month and three months after wearing fixed appliance(P < 0.05),and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).FT: There was no significant difference in DMFT between one month after wearing and before wearing(P > 0.05).There was no significant difference in DMFT between three months after wearing and before wearing and one month after wearing(P > 0.05).DMFT in six months after wearing was higher than that before wearing, one month and three months after wearing, and the difference was significant(P < 0.05).4.The correlation between CAT value and DMFT: This study shows that the correlation between CAT value and DMFT is positive, that is,the higher the CAT value, the higher the DMFT.Conclusion 1.This study showed that there was no significant difference in CAT value and DMFT between sexes before and after wearing fixed appliance(P > 0.05).2.The CAT values of 3 months and 6 months after wearing fixed appliance were higher than those before wearing fixed appliance, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).This indicated that the use of fixed appliance would affect the caries activity of the body and increase the risk of caries. The CAT value and DMFT of fixed appliance in 6 months were higher than those before,1 month and 3 months after wearing, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).It showed that the longer the fixed appliance was worn, the higher the possibility of caries.3.The correlation between CAT value and DMFT was positive, indicating that Cariostat test can reflect the status of caries, and has a certain predictive ability for caries occurrence, which has guiding significance for clinical work.4.Patients in fixed orthodontics and people who intend to do fixed orthodontics are at high risk of dental caries.Early comprehensive prevention and treatment measures should be given to prevent and block the occurrence of dental caries.
