Objective:Based on the theoretical basis of children's growth and children's health management, this study attempts to find out the impact of overweight and obesity on children's life quality, and explore the factors that influence the life quality of overweight and obese children. It also aims to provide some measures to improve the life quality of overweight and obese children, which will help to improve their health condition and life quality. Methods:Two hospitals were randomly selected in Zhejiang Province.Through a physical examination,350 overweight and obese children were selected as the case group according to the criteria,350 normal-weighted children were matched by sex and age as the normal group. All the respondents completed the questionnaire by themselves(assisted by parents). The quality of life assessment was based on the “Quality of Life Scale for Children and Adolescents”.685 questionnaires were finally collected, among which 637 were valid. The Independent Sample t-Test was used to analyze the correlation between overweight/obesity and children's quality of life. The analysis of variance or Independent Sample t-Test was performed to analyze the effects of personal factors, family factors and lifestyle on the life quality of overweight and obese children. Finally,Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to explore the main factors. Results:In total,637 subjects were included in the study(51.2% are boys and 48.8% are girls). There were 290 patients in the normal group and 347 in the overweight and obese groups. The results of Independent Sample t-Test show that in terms of total quality of life, psychosocial function, physiological and mental health, living environment and self-satisfaction factor, the life quality of overweight and obese children was all significantly lower than normal weight children(P<0.05).The results of univariate analysis show that in the overweight/obese group, those children who are boys,in lower classes, playing video games for a long time, exercising for little time, sleeping less, whose father receiving poor education, whose father being a farmer or workman,or whose mother being a farmer, are found to have low life quality(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis show that gender, age, place of residence, grade ranking, exercise time, mother's occupation, and parental education all have an impact on the life quality of overweight and obese children.Compared with girls, boys' life quality is lower, the total score of which decreases with age.Compared with rural areas, living in cities has a negative impact on the total quality of life of overweight and obese children. The lower the class ranking is,the shorter the exercise time is,and the lower the total quality of life is.Compared with other occupations, the mother's occupation being farmer has a negative impact on the total quality of life. The lower the father's education is,the lower the total quality of life is.The higher the mother's education is,the lower the total quality of life is(P<0.05).Conclusions:The QOL of overweight and obese children was significantly lower than that of normal-weighted children in terms of total quality of life, psychosocial function, physiological and mental health, living environment and self-satisfaction factors.Boys, children with lower classes, with longer time of watching video games, shorter time of exercise, shorter sleep time, lower father's education, whose father's occupation as farmers or workman, and mother's occupation as farmers have lower QOL.Gender, age, place of residence, grade ranking, exercise time, parental occupation, and parental education are the main factors affecting the QOL of overweight and obese children. To a certain extent, improving parents' health literacy and strengthening schools' attention to overweight and obese children can improve the QOL of obese children.
