The chemical constituents of two medicinal plants from western Hubei were researched in this subject, which were Toddalia asiatica(L.)Lam and veratrum grandiflorum. The extracts were separated and purified using silica gel column chromatography, sephadex LH-20,ODS,MCI and semi-preparative high performance liquid chromatography to afford 86 compounds, and 7 compounds were new.Their structures were identified on the basis of their physico chemical properties,HRESIMS,UV,IR and NMR spectrometry data.Toddalia asiatica(L.)Lam is a traditional medicine widely distributed in China,Thailand, and India. The detailed chemical compositions of the rhizome and fruit of Toddalia asiatica(L.)Lam were studied, and 67 compounds were isolated, which were identified as:(+)-Toddaguaiapinine A(1),(-)-Toddaguaiapinine A(2),(+)-To ddaguaiapinine B(3),(-)-Toddaguaiapinine B(4),6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-dihydronitide(5),(threo)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methoxy-1-acetoxy-2-propanol(6),mexoticin(7),toddaculin(8),coumurrayin(9),toddalenone(10),8-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-6,7-dimeth oxycoumarin(11),isosibiricina(12),cedrelopsin(13),5,7,8-trimethoxycoumarin(14),8-(2-ethoxy-3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyl)-5,7-dimethoxycoumarin(15),puberulin(16),6-methoxy-7-prenyloxycoumarin(17),6-isopentenyl-7-hydroxy-5-methoxycou marin(18),demethylsuberosin(19),omphamurin(20),auraptene(21),7-[(E)-7'-hydroxy-3',7'-dimethylocta-2',5'-dienyloxy]coumarin(22),7-(6'-hydroxy-3',7'-dime thyl-2'E,7-octadienyloxy)coumarin(23),7-[3,7-dimethyl-6-oxo-(2E)-2–octenyloxy] coumarin(24),7-hydroxycoumarin(25),7-[(E)-3',7'-dimethyl-6-oxo-2',7'-octadien yloxy]coumarin(26),7-O-(7'-peroxygeranyl)coumarin(27),7-O-prenylombelliferone(28),ulopterol(29),isopimpinellin(30),pimpinellin(31),bergapten(32),phellop terin(33),5-methoxy-8-geranyloxypsoralen(34),alloimperatorin(35),8-hydroxyber gapten(36),bergamottin(37),rutaretin(38),heraclenol(39),braylin(40),norbraylin(41),6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-N-methyldihydrodecarine(42),skimmianine(43),dictam nine(44),tormentic acid(45),1?-hydroxyeuscaphic acid(46),2?,3?,19?,23-tetra hydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid(47),2?,3?,19?-trihydroxyurs-12-en-23-formyl-28-oic acid(48),ursolic acid(49),2?-hydroxy-ursolic acid(50),maslinic acid(51),oleanolic acid(52),guaianediol(53),mandassidione(54),4-O-E-coumaroylarbutin(55),2,6,2',6'-tetramethoxy-4,4'-bis(2,3-epoxy-1-hy droxypropyl)biphenyl(56),methyl-4-O-coumaroylquinate(57),(threo)-1-(4-hydroxy phenyl)-1-methoxy-2,3-propanediol(58),(erythro)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-methoxy-2,3-propanediol(59),ethyl ferulate(60),cinnamate ethyl ester(61),methyl cinnamic acid(62),methyl ferulate(63),arylaldehyde(64),tridecyl monoglyceride(65),2,4,6-trihydroxy acetophenone-2-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(66),?-sitosterol(67).Overall the constituents isolated from Toddalia asiatica(L.)Lam,30 constituents were separated from this genus for the first time, respectively compounds 12?13?15?17?19?21-24?26-28?37-39?45-59.The detailed chemical compositions of the rhizome of veratrum grandiflorum was studied, and 19 compounds were isolated, which were identified as: [14-abeo-3?-hydroxy-androst-5,12(13)-dien-17-one]-3-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(68),14-abeo-3?-hydroxy-androst-5,12(13)-dien-17-one(69),14-abeo-3?,7?-dihydroxy-androst-5,12(13)-dien-17-one(70),germine(71),3-[(3,4-dimethoxybenzoyl)oxy]-4,9-epoxycevane-4,7,14,15,16,20-hexol(72),zygadenine(73),veratrosine(74),veratraline B(75),(1?,3?,5?)-1,3-dihydroxyjervanin-12-en-11-one(76),veratrobasine(77),verdine(78),solanidine-3-O-?-D-glucopyranoside(79),veratramine(80),eqirubijervine(81),isorubijervine(82),15-O-(2-methylbutyroyl)-germine(83),jervine(84),solanidine(85)and ?-sitosterol(86).There were 2 constituents separated from veratrum grandiflorum for the first time, respectively compounds 69 and 70.
