Research On News Construction Of Depression Based On Fairclough's Three-dimensional Model

In recent years,the prevalence of depression has increased year by year,and the burden of disease has increased.Depression has become one of the most significant public health problems in the world in the 21 st century.In China,depression has also become a significant problem affecting the health of the people,and this situation has received wide attention from all walks of life.However,there is still a lack of understanding,contempt,rejection and even stigmatization of depression in the public in China.The media plays an important role in popularizing depression knowledge,its construction of the depression news is able to guide public opinion.Studying the media's current state of construction of depression will help the media to re-examine and improve news reports on depression,and the study will help the media to play a positive role in popularizing depression knowledge and changing public bias.This paper selects the news reports on depression from People's Daily,Southern Weekend and Health Times from 2014 to 2018 as text analysis objects,and the theoretical support of this paper is Fairclough's Three-dimensional Model.From the three dimensions of text dimension,discourse practice dimension and social practice dimension,this paper conducts critical discourse analysis on depression news reports to explore the current status of traditional media on the construction of depression.The study found : in terms of the analysis of the text,the three newspapers have a certain deviation from the construction and reality of "Depression",and the construction of "depression patients" is mostly negative.In terms of the discourse practice,the discourse of the doctors is not equal to the discourse of the sufferers in the news text.The "top-down" preaching perspective does not have the equality which is between doctors and patients,which is not conducive to the audience's knowledge of depression.The communication from the medical perspective is not able to meet the real needs of the audience,and the social background and cultural factors behind depression were insufficiently explored.There was a conflict between the medical perspective and the common experience perspective.In terms of social practice,the media's reports on depression reflects the trend of democratization of medical discourse.The current state of depression discourse construction is the result of the game of various parties' powers.The reconstruction of the discourse order of depression is also facing great resistance and challenge.
