Research purpose: Discussion of Dose-effect Relationship of traditional Chinese medicine by using the examples of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.Research method: Find out the medical records from Song,Jin,Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties with definite dosage and analyze the relationship between the efficacy and dosage of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.Research result:(1)The average common dosage of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz is 10.17 g for the efficacy of tonifying qi and strengthen spleen,11.08 g for drying dampness and promoting diuresis,10.39 g for miscarriage prevention and 8.70 g for perspirant.(2)The average common dosage of Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC is 8.81 g for the efficacy of drying dampness and promoting diuresis,7.12 g for dispelling wind and dampness,11.19 g for dispelling filth and resolving turbid and 3.73 g for exterior releasing.(3)In addition to the efficacy of check diarrhea,stop bleeding and check vaginal discharge,the hypothesis of the other efficacy of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC with the processing of stir-bake to brown or scorch is drying dampness at blood aspect which is one of the main solutions for the syndrome of yin deficiency and dampness.(4)Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC at doses below 3.73 g can still play its role by decoction powder preparation.(5)The main efficacy of the dosage of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz over 30.00 g or37.30 g can be changed into relax the bowels or qi-moving bewteen waist and navel.(6)Dose conversion in Qing Dynasty should be considered when medical records in Song Dynasty were re-inscribed in Qing Dynasty.Conclusion:(1)Through the study of medical records,we can really reflect the dose-effect relationship of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.(2)The effective dosage range of each efficacy of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.is wide and the repetition range is large,therefore,the main efficacy is affected mainly by medicine combination.(3)Although the dosage of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.below 3.73 g is small,its efficacy can still play the role by decoction powder preparation.(4)When the dosage of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz is more than 30.00 g or 37.30 g,the main efficacy can be changed.(5)In addition to check diarrhea,stop bleeding and check vaginal discharge,Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz and Atractylodes lancea(Thunb.)DC.with the processing of stir-bake to brown or scorch still have unclear efficacy.
