Short-term Effects Of Negative Colonoscopy In Patients With Functional Constipation

Purpose A study shows that a negative gastroscopy could benefit patients with dyspepsia by decreasing health-related anxiety and alleviating gastrointestinal symptom^[1].However,we find no researches about the effects of negative colonoscopy on patients with functional constipation.This study sought to clear the controversy that whether a negative colonoscopy could decrease the health-related anxiety of patients with functional constipation and alleviate their constipation symptom.Methods From September 2015 to December 2015,69 patients treated in Zhucheng People's Hospital with age?18 years old,conforms to the Rome III criteria of adult functional constipation,and a negative colonoscopy of our hospital were enrolled in this study from patients with chronic constipation who came to our hospital endoscopy center for colonoscopy.All patients were required to fill out one health anxiety questionnaire,constipation symptoms rating scale and basic information registration form before colonoscopy.Follow up the patients 1,4 and 8 weeks after colonoscopy with the health-related anxiety questionnaire,constipation symptom rating scale,and record the drug treatment of constipation.All data were analyzed by SPSS 19.0 statistical software,comparing the health anxiety scores and constipation symptom scores beforeand after colonoscopy.Results Among the 69 patients with functional constipation,61 ones completely finished the follow-ups of 1 week,4 week and 8 week after colonoscopy.45 patients with functional constipation were analyzed because they didn`t take drugs for treatment of constipation or take the same drugs before and after colonoscopy or take drugs before colonoscopy while not take after colonoscopy.Among the 45 patients,7patients were male,others were female,and the average age was 42.80±13.82 years old,the average health anxiety score was 20.96±7.78 points,the average constipation symptom score was 11.47±2.37 points.1 week after colonoscopy,the average health anxiety score declined to 15.60 points?P=0.000?.4 weeks,8 weeks after colonoscopy,the average health anxiety score declined to 13.98 points and 12.42 points respectively.1 week after colonoscopy,the average constipation symptom score declined to 8.73 points?P=0.000?.4 weeks,8 weeks after colonoscopy,the average constipation symptom score declined to 8.02 points and 7.60 points respectively.Conclusion Negative colonoscopy in patients with functional constipation is associated with analleviation in health-related anxiety and constipation symptom.Moreover,in addition to the relief of anxiety,we could preliminarily conclude that the relief of constipation may also relate to the changes in intestinal flora,the straightening and shortening of intestinal canal and so on,but these assumptions need further researches to confirm.
