ObjectiveThe study compared the effects of Triple Energizer Acupuncture Method combined with xiaoyao pill and xiaoyao pill only on the GAGS scores, the quality of life, symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine with liver stagnation and spleen deficiency, and analyzed the efficacy of both methods. The relationship between the patients' life quality and the skin lesion was also analyzed. This study was to provide the reference for the clinical treatment of acne.MethodsSixty cases of acne of liver stagnation and spleen deficiency patients were randomized into the treatment group and the matched group, and each group contained thirty person. The patients in the matched group were orally treated with xiaoyao pill, eight pills at a time, three times a day.The patients in the treatment group were orally treated with xiaoyao pill, meanwhile the patients were treated with Triple Energizer Acupuncture Method twice a week.A course of treatment is four times, with a total of two courses of treatment. After two courses of t reat ment, the changes of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, the Qol-Acne scores in both groups were observed.Differences in efficacy betwreen the treatment group and the matched group were evaluated. An analysis of the relationship between the quality of life and the skin lesions in patients with acne was also given.Results1.Statistical analysis was performed on the sex,the age,the average duration, the grade of severity of acne lesions, the average scores of skin lesions before treatment and the number of grades of lesions before treatment. The statistical results of every data of the difference showed no statistically significant. Therefore they were comparable.2.Clinical efficacy:The comparision of the difference in total efficiency between the two groups was significant, respectively with 73.33%and 86.67%.3.GAGS scores:After two courses of treatment, the GAGS scores of skin loss of the matched group and the treatment group were compared before the treatment and after the treatment, and the average score of skin lesions in the matched and the treatment group was significantly lower than that before the treatment. The results showed that the effects of both treatments in improving the skin loss of the patients with acne was better. After 2 courses of treatment, the divergence between the matched group and the treatment group of skin lesions score before the treatment and after the treatment was P<0.05,the divergence was statistically significant. The mean value of skin loss in the treatment group was lower than that of the matched group after two courses, and the decrease of the score of skin loss in the treatment group was superior than that of the matched group before the treatment and after the treatment, the treatment group showed better advantages than that of the matched group.4.QoL-Acne scores:The QoL-Acne scores in the matched groups and the treatment were higher than before. The differences were significant compared with that before the treatment in the matched group. This is the same with the treatment group. However the QoL-Acne scores of the treatment group were remarkably higher than that of the matched group after two courses of treatment, which was more significant.5.Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores:The traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores were lower than before in the treatment group and the matched group. The differences were statistically significant in both the treatment group and the matched group. But the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores of the treatment group were remarkably lower than that of the matched group after two courses of treatment. The differences were remarkably signi ficant.6.The correlation analysis between change of skin lesion scores and that of the QoL-Acne scores in the both groups:There was an negative correlation between the change of the skin lesion scores and that of the QoL-Acne scores in the both the treatment and the matched group. The correlation coefficients in both two groups were respectively-0.996and-0.622.7.Follow up for eight weeks showed that the recurrence rate of the treatment group and the matched group was statistically significant, and the recurrence rate of the treatment group was lower than that of the other group.ConclusionTriple Energizer Acupuncture Method has a synergistic effect with xiaoyao pill.Triple Energizer Acupuncture Method combined with xiaoyao pill is superior to xiaoyao pill in the clinical efficacy, alleviating the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome and improving the quality of life in patients of acne.
