Five circuit phases and six natural factors is a theory that explains the laws of nature,life and disease about time and space.It is an important part of the theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).According to the "National Catalogue of Chinese Medicine Books","Test of Medical Books","General Chinese Medicine Ancient Books" and "Chinese Ancient Medical Books Bibliography",five circuit phases and six natural factors was first seen in The Seven Chapters of "Huangdi's Canon of Medicine,Su Wen"(referred to as" Su Wen")discovered and perfected by Wang Bing in the Tang Dynasty in a complete and systematic appearance.But there are few words about this theory in the Tang Dynasty.In addition to Wang Bing's work,the monograph of the first five circuit phases and six natural factors theory is "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" written by Liu Wenshu of the Song Dynasty in 1099 A.D..This book is easy to understand the explanation of the theory of five circuit phases and six natural factors,and has a huge impact on the views of later scholars.However,contemporary scholars' research on this book is still insufficient.This study takes the academic viewpoints in "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi " as the main research content,and aims to clarify the inheritance,innovation and academic influence of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" in the development of the theory of five circuit phases and six natural factors.This study uses the literature research method as the main research method.On the basis of systematically sorting out the Seven Chapters of "Su Wen" and the content of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" this study uses a combination of simple enumeration,scientific induction,logic analysis,comparative analysis and other methods to research "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" In this book,the academic origins of important viewpoints in the four parts of Heavenly Stems,Earthly branches,Five Circuit and Six Natural Factors are studied and sorted out.At the same time,the academic viewpoints that have been clearly identified in the "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" will not be further studied and analyzed.The main research routes established by the objectives and methods of this research are:(1)Systematicly sort out the Seven Chapters of "Su Wen",and summarize the basic concepts of the five circuit phases and six natural factors theory in the way of"merging similar items" and arrange it in strips.The results of the collation will be used as the comparative standard for the research content of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi".(2)On the basis of the overall comparison of the contents of the Seven Chapters of"Su Wen" and "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" the chapters focusing on the basic concepts and innovating in the book "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" are the key research contents.For example,"On the Five Elements","On the Heavenly Stems","On the Earthly Branches","On the Days of with Six Natural Factors","On the Five Qi of Sky ","On the Six Natural Factors of Heaven and Earth","On the Host Qi","On The Host Yun and Guest Yun",etc.(3)On the basis of work(1)and(2),comparing the similarities and differences of the core basic concepts such as "five elements","heavenly stems","five circuit phases" and "six natural factors" in "iSu Wen" and "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi".Refining and summarizing the innovative views of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi."(4)Using the CNKI,the Duxiu network,the Chaoxing electronic book database,the Zhonghua Yidian and the campus library and other literature inquiry platforms,combing the origin of the academic viewpoint of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi "worked out in work(3)through the literature research and comparison.(5)The multi-disciplinary research methods and research conclusions of contemporary scholars are taken as new perspectives and new ideas to deepen the understanding of the true connotation of the important academic views of the five circuit phases and six natural factors obtained from the above work.Through the above research methods and research content,the main conclusions of this study are:On the basis of the viewpoint of "Su Wen","The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" interprets the five elements by combining the "five seasons" and "five materials".The specific interpretation of "wood,fire,earth,gold,water" is directly derived from the expressions of Ban Gu s book "Bai Hutong,Five Elements" in the Eastern Han Dynasty and Xu Shen's book "Shuo Wen Jie Zi" in the Eastern Han Dynasty.The viewpoint corresponding to the "five elements" and "five seasons" in " the Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi " is directly derived from Wang Bing's commentary in "Su Wen,Liu Yuan Zheng Ji Da Lun"."The Mystery" of Five Circuits and Six Qi" to explain the " promotion of five elements " in the "five materials" directly from the Xiao Ji's book "Wu Xing Da Yi,on the Promotion of Five Elements" in the Sui Dynasty,and the " restriction of five elements " in the "five materials" directly from " Su Wen,Bao Ming Quan Xing Lun"and "Bai Hutong,Five Elements"."The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi " explains the " Heavenly Stems " text in the cycle of life's birth,strength,decline,and death.It directly draws on Zheng Xuan's commentary on "Li JI,Yue ling" during the Eastern Han Dynasty." The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" explains the " Earthly Branches " in the process of change in life in the 12 months of the year.It directly draws on the"Jin Shu,Yue Zhi" written by Fang Xuanling and others in the Tang Dynasty.On the understanding of the concept of "Tiangan Huayun",the perspective in"The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" is based on"Su Wen" and inspired by"Xuanzhu MiYu" and creatively depict the text description as a picture called "Wu Tian qi".The figure has become a model for many works of citations and imitations,including the Ming dynasty works "Leijing Tuyi","Yixue Qiongyuan","Yunqi Yilan"and the Qing Dynasty works "Maijue Huibian" as well as modern works "The Sixth Lecture on Ren Yingqiu's Theory of Yunqi",Theory of Yunqi in Traditional Chinese Medicine","Introduction to the Five Circuit Phases and Six natural Factors".Regarding the concept of the host qi and guest qi,the calculation method and the time to play a role,the earliest source that can be seen at present is the "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi".This part of the content is the supplement and development of the theory system of the five circuit phases and six natural factors on the basis of the "tai-shao of five tone " listed in "Su Wen".The words "Jueyin Fengmu ","Taiyin Shitu " and“Yangming Zaojin " in the concept of " six qi" are first seen in ";The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi“The complete concept of "six qi”is in the”Su Wen" appeared "Shaoyang Xianghuo“,"Xuanzhu Miyu" added "Shaoyin Junhuo" and "Taiyang Hanshui"," the Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi " proposed "Jueyin Fengmu" "," Taiyin Shitu"?"Yangming Zaojin " was officially established.On the controversial issue of the " six natural factors starting date "," the Great Cold " chosen by "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" from " the first day of the lunar calendar"," the beginning of the spring " and " the Great Cold " three choices may have played a major role in the widespread of the theory of" the Great Cold".From the perspective of written expression,Sun Yikui's "Yizhi Xuyu" during the Ming Dynasty,Zhang Jiebin's book "Leijing Tuyi" during the Ming Dynasty,and Wang Ji's book "Yuqi YiLan" during the Ming Dynasty,"Yunqi Tushuo" edited by Fujian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the ancient books "Sanming Tonghui" and "Ziping Jingcui" during the Ming Dynasty,have directly extracted the original text of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" to varying degrees.Except for the " Yunqi Tushuo ",the rest of the works did not declare that its content was taken from "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi".The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi" plays a major role,has far-reaching influence and is important in the process of constructing and inheriting the theory system of the five circuit phases and six natural factors.It is necessary to further strengthen the comprehensive study of "The Mystery of Five Circuits and Six Qi"and the author Liu Wenshu in the future.When scientific research is used to study traditional academic content,it is necessary to make a reasonable proof of the "hypothesis" or "guess" with rigorous scientific research ideas and a sound knowledge system chain under the premise of clear and accurate theoretical analysis.
