Objective:To objectively presented the historical context of the development of acupuncture education in Australia;the research cases of academic education and non-academic education are used to make up for the shortcomings of existing scholars’ research.The case study reflects the characteristics of acupuncture education development and the problems that need to be solved provide experience for acupuncture education in China and other western countries.The research on acupuncture education in Australia helps to strengthen the exchange and cooperation of acupuncture education and scientific research at home and abroad,and the integration of Chinese medicine and mainstream Western medicine.Methods:Literature survey and network information.Search and collate the Chinese and English acupuncture education materials from 1990 to 2018,and establish the Endnote database summary.Results and conclusion:The introduction of Chinese medicine into Australia can be traced back to the 19 th century,but the earliest TCM education and training institutions appeared in the late 1960 s.In the following decades,acupuncture education in Australia developed rapidly.The development of acupuncture education in Australia was influenced by many factors.The standardization of acupuncture legislation,acupuncture industry operation,acupuncture practice,and the regularization of acupuncture education industry have provided a good background for the development of acupuncture education.Acupuncture association has created conditions for promoting the development of acupuncture education.The popularity of dry needling education in Australia has promoted the improvement and advancement of acupuncture education.The advantages of acupuncture itself and the demand for acupuncture in Australia have given birth to the prosperity of acupuncture education.The development of Australian acupuncture education has gone through four stages: the start-up phase,the climax phase,the adjustment phase and the maturity phase.The initial period was mostly private school or short-term training,and the qualifications are not recognized by the Australian government.From the 1990 s to the beginning of the 21 st century,a total of 6 public institutions and 15 private institutions offer a wide range of acupuncture courses.The educational institutions included Australian public institutions and private institutions.2012 to 2014 was the adjustment period of Australian acupuncture education,many schools gradually eliminated the acupuncture course.At present,Australia’s acupuncture education has reached maturity period.There are two types of acupuncture education at the stage of maturity: one is the education for professional Chinese acupuncturists and the other is the education for medical acupuncturists.This article also discusses CPD education and the vocational training on acupuncture.In general,Australian acupuncture education attaches great importance to TCM philosophy education and legal education in teaching content;attaches importance to the combination of acupuncture and other subject areas;has diverse educational purposes and practicality;can fully utilize the "Internet +" platform to give play to students subjective initiative.At the same time,we have also seen many problems in the acupuncture education in Australia,which need improvement.Such as attaching importance to acupuncture practice,ignoring acupuncture research;clinical practice teaching is limited;education level is uneven.In continuing education and short-term training,the concept boundaries of acupuncture education are not clear.□□At the same time,we have also seen many problems in the acupuncture education in Australia,which need improvement.Such as attaching importance to acupuncture practice,ignoring acupuncture research;clinical practice teaching is limited;education level is uneven;in continuing education and short-term training,the concept boundaries of acupuncture education are not clear.
