Laozi's thought of "venerating softness" originates from the three generations of Xia,Shang and Zhou dynasties and their ancient cultures, especially the matriarchal clan's social culture."Venerating softness"is the symbol of the infinite vitality of Laozi's "Tao",which originates from his profound insight into life and shows people the way of life of all things in the universe.Laozi's view of life is a summary of the natural law of life ancd death of heaven and earth. From the perspective of medical life,Laozi's philosophy of"venerating softness" reflects his health-preserving thought to a certain extent. The natural law of life and death of heaven and earth determines Laozi's view of life. The universe is endless and the individual life is limited.Only by conforming to the law of life can we delay the passage of life. The way to be gentle is Laozi's health practice,to protect the vitality of the universe,to cultivate a whole body of gentle spirit, and to pursue the maintenance of "gentle with rigid" and "rigid with tender" so as to achieve the end of his life.Taking Laozi's "Venerating softness" thought as a breakthrough point, referring to various annotations, under the background of history and culture, and based on the theory of health preservation of traditional Chinese medicine, this paper attempts to systematically extract Laozi's"Venerating softness" health preservation thought, and explain its influence, enlightenment and value on traditional Chinese medicine.Through the analysis,it is preliminarily concluded that its connotation is harmony between Yin and Yang, conserving promordial Qi;its principle is to do nothing without dispute and to be natural;Laozi's "venerating softness" health preservation method lies in three aspects:moral sentiment, dealing with people and soft guidance,so that we can understand the way of heaven and earth, and live a virtuous life,so as to act in accordance with the way of life,to do something in the world, and to maintain a gentle life in the interior.Laozi's "venerating softness" health preservation has a profound impact on Huangdi Neijing and later health preservation works, covering the general purpose of health preservation, and even some prescriptions and medicines.Laozi's "venerating softness" health preservation has a profound understanding of life,so it conforms to medical principles, can guide health preservation, and is conducive to clinical practice. At present, many health-preserving theories are popular, but they excessively pursue physical strength and neglect the softness of internal Qi.Laozi's "venerating softness" health preservation can make up for this bias.Rigidity and softness, physical and mental health is the more moderate way to maintain health. Not only that,at present, people generally live under tremendous pressure, and social struggle is fierce.Laozi's "Venerating softness" health preservation thought has certain value and significance in the aspects of physical and mental health, correcting the bias of excessive strength over rigidity, establishing the concept of nurturing health with both rigidity and flexibility, and providing positive and promising methods of physical and mental rehabilitation,so as to construct a harmonious society, which has a very important role and value. It provides useful reference for popularizing the traditional Chinese concept and methods of health preservation, establishing a relaxed concept of labor preservation, and building a harmonious society between individuals, society and nature. In addition,it will help people return to attach importance to the traditional Chinese health culture, help the convergence of eastern and Western cultures, health culture convergence and coherence, and serve contemporary health preservation.
