ObjectiveTo understand the status and the related factors of depression and anxiety of international students and to explore the main factors that lead to depression and anxiety.To analyze the correlation between depression and anxiety and the impact of sleep quality on the depression and anxiety of international students and the measures to relieve the depression and anxiety in foreign students.To propose some measures to improve the impression and anxiety of international students.MethodsIn August 2018,an investigation was conducted on foreign students in a medical university.Self-made influencing factors questionnaire,self-rating depression scale,self-rating anxiety scale,Pittsburgh sleep quality index were used in this investigation.With Excel 2007 and SPSS 22.0 software data entry and statistical analysis.Use the mean and standard deviation to describe the measurement data,and use rata and percentage for the description of count data.Using two independent sample t test or multiple independent samples analysis of variance for measurement data statistical analysis,count data statistical analysis using chi-square test,using Pearson correlation analysis to investigate the correlation between depression,anxiety and sleep quality,using multiple linear regression analysis to investigate the sleep quality of each dimension and the influence factors on the students the influence of depression and anxiety.ResultsThe results show:Depression is detected in 229 international students,accounting for 20%;And the number of international students with anxiety is 224,accounting for 25.3%,the state of depression and anxiety is serious among international students.According to the Pearson linear correlation test,the correlation coefficient between depression and anxiety is 0.640.The correlation coefficient between depression and sleep quality was r=0.380.The correlation coefficient between anxiety and sleep quality was r=0.361,P<0.01,indicating that there was a significant correlation between depression,anxiety and sleep quality of overseas students.The results of single factor analysis show that:41 variables including gender,age and grade were associated with depression(P<0.05).Age,grade and other 39 variables were associated with anxiety(P<0.05).Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis results show that gender,whether alone,employment prospects,the employment pressure,the frequency of doing hobby and talking with someone when in a bad mood,have abuse by the parents or not,Chinese level,professional satisfaction,learning pressure,family economic conditions,adapt to the Chinese diet or not,relations with roommates impact on depression.The effect of loneliness on depression is the largest,accounting for 19.6%.Age,whether alone,have been abused by parents or not,employment pressure,employment prospects,have a fierce quarrel with teacher or not,the frequency of talking with someone when in a bad mood,study pressure,family economic condition,whether the school have enough measures to relieve stress,the time of doing sports,relationship with roommates,Chinese level impact on anxiety.Loneliness have the biggest impact on anxiety,accounting for 17.8 percent.ConclusionThe international students in this survey have high rates of depression and anxiety detection and there is a positive correlation between depression and anxiety.Sleep quality affects both depression and anxiety,shows that the worse the sleep quality,the more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety.The management organization of international students should make corresponding measures according to the related factors to alleviate the depression and anxiety of international students.
