Health and education are important human capitals, which play an important role in the development of national economy and the quality of personal life. The 19th National Congresses pointed that "We must show firm resolve in implementing the strategy for invigorating China through science and education".The Plan of Health China 2030 regarded "Health for all and all for health"as the goal.Education and health are not isolated individuals. They interact and promote each other. On the one hand,a healthy physical and psychological state guarantees the normal progress of study. On the other hand,a high level of education is conducive to maintaining a good state of health. What are the influence mechanisms of education on health?Which influence mechanism is more effective in improving health? These are issues worthy of discussion.Firstly, through literature review, researches about the influence of education on health and the mechanisms are summarized and commented.Secondly, based on Grossman model, this paper proposes two hypotheses about the effect of education on health, including budget constraint mechanism hypothesis and cognitive constraint mechanism hypothesis. The former refers to the effect of education on health mainly through influencing market factors such as income, wage, occupational type, etc. The latter refers to the effect of education on health mainly through influencing non-market factors such as independent thinking&judgment, understanding ability and self-control.Thirdly,based on CFPS 2014 data, this paper takes compulsory education law and the higher education level between parents as the instrumental variables. It uses two test methods of mediation models, named sequential test coefficient method and Bootstrap method,to test the validity of the mechanisms. The empirical results show that, from overall point of view, gender?age?education have a significant effect on health.Education can improve individuals'health, whether measured by self-reported health, physical health or mental health. From the regional and gender perspective, the impact of education on health in developing areas and female residents is higher than that in developed areas and male residents. The budget constraint mechanism and cognitive restraint mechanism are satisfied. The influence of cognitive constraint mechanism is higher than the budget constraint mechanism. That is to say, education improves personal health condition mainly by changing personal cognitive and understanding ability.Difference database and indicators are used for robustness test. The results pass the significance test.On the basis of empirical analysis, relevant policy recommendations are put forward.
