Treating Patients Underwent Total Knee Arthroplasty With Antidepressant Duloxetine-A Short Term Follow-up Study

Objective:Patients with osteoarthritis usually get treated with total knee arthroplasty(TKA)and face chronic pain after surgery.The postsurgical chronic pain is related with depression closely.This study plans to treat patients who underwent TKA with antidepressant Duloxetine and analyze the state of depression,pain and the function of the joint.Method:Sixty-six patients diagnosed as OA in Dalian Central Hospital from February to October 2017 with TKA and depression were selected.Randomly divided into two groups,the general situation of patients was evaluated and analyzed,and postoperative adverse events and drug side effects were recorded.The experimental group was treated with duloxetine,while the control group did not do any special treatment and applied drugs until 8 weeks after the operation.HAMD-17,WOMAC and KSS scores were performed on the patients before operation,2 weeks after operation,4 weeks after operation and 8 weeks after operation to reflect the effect of duloxetine on pain,depression and joint function of the patients after total knee replacement.The specific scores were analyzed statistically.Results:The two groups did not show any difference according to gender,age,job and education background(P>0.05).For the HAMD-17,WOMAC and KSS scores,two groups did not show any difference before surgery either.After the surgery,the Duloxetine group showed better HAMD-17,WOMAC and KSS scores comparing with the group at 2,4 and 8 weeks(P<0.05).No severe side effect nor adverse event was found in both groups.Conclusion:Duloxetine is able to relieve pain,improve the joint function and mental state of the patients underwent TKA without severe side effect.
