Objective:To observe the dynamic changes of VEGF and 5-HT in patients undergone partial hepatectomy and their relationship with post-hepatectomy liver failure(PHLF).Methods: Clinical data of 50 patients who were administrated and received partial liver resection in our hospital during October 2017 and March 2018 were extracted and analyzed. They were divided into two groups: major resection(n=37)and minor resection group(n=13)according to the amount of resected segment.Blood routine test, liver & renal function test results at indicated time points(post-operative day,POD0,1,2,5,7)were extracted and analyzed.Simultaneously, plasma samples were prepared and applied for detection of VEGF and 5-HT concentrations.PHLF was assessed using “50-50 criteria” and receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC)were used to evaluate the prognostic values of them on POD1.Results:Basic information including gender, age were similar between two groups.Median levels of VEGF and 5-HT were significantly increased in major resection group than those in minor resection group(P <0.05).Patients with PHLF showed higher post-operative median 5-HT levels when comparing with non PHLF patients(P <0.05)when VEGF was significantly elevated in PHLF group on POD5(P <0.05).The area under ROC for 5-HT on POD1 was 0.80(95% CI: 0.66~0.93)(p=0.0042).Conclusion: VEGF and 5-HT were involved in liver regeneration process taking as positive regulator after hepatectomy and their levels increased by the extent of resection.Plasma 5-HT levels on POD1 may be an effective marker of predicting PHLF.
