Object: To explore the protective effect of total flavonoids of Dracocephalum Moldavica L.on hypoxia-induced lung injury in rats. Methods: After successfully constructing the rat model of chronic mountain sickness, the experimental rats were randomly divided into the following groups: control group(CG),model group(MG),nifedipine-treated group(NE),total flavonoids of Dracocephalum Moldavica L high-dose group(DML.H),total flavonoids of Dracocephalum Moldavica L medium-dosage group(DML.M)and total flavonoids of Dracocephalum Moldavica L low-dosage group(DML.L).Pulmonary artery pressure, serum levels of erythropoietin(EPO)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and the levels of superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)in lung tissue of rats from each group were detected. The pathological changes of lung tissues in the rats from each group were also observed.Lung histomorphology also improved to some extent. Results:Compared with the CG,pulmonary artery pressure increased, serum EPO and VEGF levels increased,SOD and GSH-Px contents decreased, and MDA contents increased in chronic altitude sickness rats. After the intervention with different doses of total flavonoids of vanilla, the pulmonary rtery pressure of rats decreased in varying degrees, the contents of EPO and VEGF in serum decreased, the contents of SOD and GSH-Px in lung tissue increased, and the contents of MDA decreased. Conclusion: Total flavonoids of Dracocephalum Moldavuca L can exert certain protective effects on hypoxia-induced lung injury.
