There are about 50 species of genus Leontopodium (Compositae) all over the world and more than 41 grown in China. About 15 species of Leontopodium are traditional Chinese medicine with anti-inflammatory activity for releasing cough, as expectorant and for the treatment of bronchitis. There are about 60 species of genus Dracocephalum (Lamiaceae) all over the world and more than 32 grown in China. The plants of Dracocephalum are efficacious in curring inflammatory diseases and hypertony. We studied the chemical constituents of the roots of Leontopodium longifolium Ling which was collected from Zhang County, Gansu Province, 22 compounds have been isolated by means of silica gel column chromatography (CC), preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC) and recrystallization. The structures of 15 compounds have been elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, MS, 1DNMR, 2DNMR) and by comparison with authentic samples or with the data from the literatures. Among them, four compounds are new. They are named as rel-(1S, 4R, 5S, 6R)-4, 5-diacetoxy-l-angeloyloxy-biasbol-2, 9, 11-triene, rel-{\S, 4R, 5S, 6R)-4, 5-di-acetoxy-l-angeloyloxy-l l-hydroxylbisabol-2, 9-diene, rel-(lR, 3S, 4R, 6S)-4-acetyloxy -l-angeloyloxy-l l-hydroxyl-bisabol-9-en, 8-hydroxyobliquin. In addition, their cytotoxic activity in vito against human promyelocytic leukemia cells (HL-60), human hepatoma cells (SMMC-7721) and human hepatocytes (L02) were tested, using the sulforhodamine B (SRB) method. From Dracocephalum tanguticum Maxim (collected from Zhang County, Gansu Province), 28 compounds were isolated, of which 22 compounds have been identified. The research references of bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids are reviewed for decade. Results in this thesis are important for chemtaxonomy, developing and utilizing the natural resources and screening new medicines.
