Objective Epilepsy is caused by a variety of reasons and break out in a burst of brain neurons abnormal discharge of brain dysfunction syndrome(such as a sudden loss of consciousness),is a very high incidence of a disease of the central nervous system that descend to a serious threat to human health.International League Against Epilepsy(ILAE)released the latest European and American Epilepsy epidemiological report,The epilepsy incidence of national people is about 2.4/100000,about 20% ~ 30% of Epilepsy patients through formal still cannot effectively control the disease after antiepileptic drug therapy, and intracranial without central epileptogenic zone or specific disease called intractable epilepsy(ITE).This kind of routine inspection technology of epileptogenic zone is difficult to find clear become at present in patients with refractory epilepsy, especially one of the difficult points of surgical treatment for epilepsy treatment. The investigation try to explore the alteration of regional homogeneity(ReHo)in intractable epilepsy(ITE)patients by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(Rs-fMRI)to reveal the pathogenesis of epilepsy. Methods To recruit nineteen patients with ITE from Anhui provincal hospital affiliated to Anhui medical university, and another 19 age-,gender-and education-matched healthy controls, these two groups underwent Rs-fMRI inspection. The data were analyzed with regional homogeneity method after the data preprocessing and compared with that of control group for discriminating the abnormal brain regions in ITE patients. Results Compared with healthy controls, the ITE group showed significantly decreased ReHo in bilateral thalamus, bilateral insula, bilateral lingual and increased ReHo in bilateral posterior cingulated cortex(PCC),bilateral precuneus, right supramarginal. Conclusions ITE patients in the resting state compared with normal subjects the cingulate cortex show significantly enhanced regional homogeneity, thus verified the cingulate cortex of epileptic patients processed high consistency BOLD signal, which may be the pathogenesis of intractable epilepsy.ITE patients with frontal lobe, temporal lobe, parietal and occipital cortex local regional homogeneity decreased obviously, which illustrate that the main brain cortex in patients with ITE had been in the state of lower level than the normal, that may be leading to intellectual, verbal, logical thinking, memory and other cognitive dysfunction. This study used the resting state functional magnetic resonance technology related functions for ITE patients abnormal brain regions were discussed,in order to understand ITE specific brain function in patients with abnormal changes,so as to lay a foundation for revealing the pathogenesis of intractable epilepsy.
