Objective:Exploring the effect of handholding and information providing on physiology, psychology and satisfaction of patients who underwent percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy under local anesthesiaMethods:A total of 74 patients suffered from lumbar intervertebral disc herniation, who received percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy under local anesthesia were selected in China-Japan Friendship Hospital from October 2016 to March 2017.All of these patients were randomly divided into the intervention group and control group using random number table,37 cases in each group.During surgery, the patients in the control group only received routine care. For the intervention group, other than the routine cares, nurses would hold the hands of patients in every 10 minutes for 20-30 seconds, and also provided surgical information to them.We used the State-Anxiety Inventory(SAI)scale to assess the degree of state anxiety before and during surgery. The Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)was used to evaluate pain level in these two groups of patients. The heart rate, blood pressure and post-operative satisfaction were recorded before and after the operation.Results:1.The blood pressure and heart rate had no significant differences in the two groups, the day before operation, before and after surgery.2.There was no statistically significant difference in the SAI scores of the day before operation between the two groups(t=0.215,P=0.830).The SAI scores had no significant difference between these two groups before anesthesia(t=0.533,P=0.596).3.The SAI scores during operation of the control group(42.30±10.14)were higher than that of the intervention group (35.35±8.00),also there was statistically significant difference between the two groups,(t=3.273,P=0.002).4.The VAS scores of the control group(54.16±22.02)was higher than that of the intervention group during operation(41.68±15.30),there was statistically significant difference between the two groups,(t=2.832,P=0.006).5.The scores of patients' coordination level which were evaluated by surgeons in the intervention group(9.19±1.08)was higher than that in the control group(8.67±1.00),there was statistically significant difference between the two groups,Z=2.628,P=0.009,P<0.05.6.The proportion of patients with nursing satisfaction classified "very satisfied" in intervention group was higher than that in control group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between group,P>0.05.Conclusion:Handholding and information providing for patients who underwent percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy under local anesthesia was a useful intervention. It can relieve anxiety, pain, helplessness of the patients, and also enhance the degree of surgical cooperation of the patients. It make patients more comfortable no matter in physiological or in psychological, and better coordination with surgery.
