Objective:To understand the composition and incidence of diseases in elderly patients with oral and maxillofacial surgery in the region, exploring the clinical and pathological features of various diseases,it is helpful to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of elderly patients with oral and maxillofacial diseases in the region.Materials and Methods:All the clinical data of 2291 elderly hospitalized patients over 60 years old were from the patients visited to the oral and maxillofacial surgery department in Stomatological Hospital of Jilin University from January 2013 to December 2018.We perform a statistical analysis of the clinical data of 2291 elderly patients, simultaneously review the literature to investigate the characteristics and trends of various diseases in elderly oral and maxillofacial surgery.Results:1.In the past 6 years, the number of elderly hospitalized patients has shown an upward trend, compared with 2013,the number of elderly hospitalized patients increased by 56.38%in 2018.In this study,1306 males and 985 females were hospitalized in the elderly for oral and maxillofacial surgery. The male to female ratio was 1.33:1.The age of elderly hospitalized patients is mainly distributed in 60?69 years old, accounting for 72.85%.2.Oral and maxillofacial tumors, salivary gland diseases and infections rank among the top three diseases among elderly hospitalized patients. From 2016 to 2018,the top 10 diseases were Warthin tumor, radicular cyst, tongue squamous cell carcinoma, gingival squamous cell cancer, pleomorphic adenoma, osteomyelitis of the jaws, keratocystic odontogenic tumor, lip squamous cell cancer, sialolithiasis, maxillofacial fractures.Compared with 2013-2015,in the past three years, the number of elderly inpatients with root cysts has an upward trend, and the number of elderly hospitalized patients with maxillofacial infection has a downward trend.3.The most common type of oral and maxillofacial infection in the elderly inpatient is the osteomyelitis of the jaws, followed by maxillofacial space infection. The most infected space is the submandibular space.4.The injury of elderly hospitalized patients is mainly caused by maxillofacial fractures. The onset time of maxillofacial fractures is mainly from May to September, and traffic accidents and falling are the main factors. The most frequently observed fracture site was the mandible.5.The first four cysts in oral and maxillofacial cysts in elderly hospitalized patients:radicular cyst(43.69%),dentigerous cyst(11.65%),branchial cleft cyst(6.80%),nasopalatine cyst(6.47%).6.Elderly inpatients with oral and maxillofacial tumors, the ratio of benign to malignant is about 0.97:1,the ratio of benign to malignant is about 1:1,and malignant tumors have a high incidence in men.The composition ratio of the more advanced disease type are 511 cases(82.15%)of squamous cell carcinoma,35 cases(5.63%)of malignant lymphoma,20 cases(3.22%)of verrucous carcinoma,15 cases(2.41%)of sarcoma,14 cases(2.25%)of basal cell carcinoma,6 cases(0.96%)of malignant melanoma. The most common sites of senile oral squamous cell carcinoma are tongue(24.85%),gingiva(20.94%),lip(13.70%),floor of mouth(13.50%),cheek(8.81%),etc.7.In elderly inpatients with salivary gland tumors, the proportion of benign and malignant tumors was about 2.64:1.Older men are more likely than females in benign salivary gland tumors. The top three in the composition of benign salivary gland tumors are 212 cases(53.54%)of Warthin tumor,116 cases(29.29%)of pleomorphic adenoma,52 cases(13.13%)of basal cell adenoma.Warthin tumor and basal cell adenomas mainly occur in the parotid gland, and other sites are rare.8.The top three in the composition of the elderly inpatient with malignant salivary gland tumor are 36 cases(24.00%)of adenoid cystic carcinoma,23 cases(15.33%)of mucoepidermoid carcinoma,16 cases(10.67%)of malignant pleomorphic adenoma. The most common site of salivary gland malignancy tumors is 64 cases of parotid gland(42.67%),followed by 22 cases(14.67%)and 19 cases of submandibular gland(12.67%).9.The most common form of leukoplakia in elderly inpatients with oral mucosal disease is 16 cases(26.67%),followed by 13 cases(21.67%)of epithelial dysplasia.Conclusions:1.The number of elderly hospitalized patients is on the rise. Most of the elderly patients are male, and the age is mainly concentrated in 60-69 years old.2.Oral and maxillofacial tumors, salivary gland diseases and maxillofacial infection rank among the top three diseases among elderly hospitalized patients.3.The number of elderly inpatients with maxillofacial space infection showed a downward trend.4.The main causes of maxillofacial fractures are traffic injuries and falls.5.The most common oral and maxillofacial soft tissue cysts for elderly inpatients is branchial cleft cyst. The most common type of odontogenic cysts is radicular cyst. The most common non-odontogenic cysts is nasopalatine cyst.Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the most common oral and maxillofacial malignancy in the elderly. The tongue is the most common site.6.Warthin tumor is the most common benign tumor of salivary gland in the elderly inpatients.Adenoid cystic carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of salivary gland in the elderly.7.The most common type of oral mucosal disease in elderly hospitalized patients is leukoplakia.
