Objective: To infer the gender of Uygur populations in Xinjiang, and to establish an equation to describe the relationship between frontal sinus and gender,by taking three-dimensional measurements of the CT images of frontal sinus. Methods: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,CT images of 128 Uygur patients aged 20-70 years who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December 2017 to April 2018 were collected, including 70 males and 58 females. The length, height and depth of the frontal sinus were defined according to the Tambawala measurement method, and the length was measured separately.Data analysis was performed using SPSS23.0.Results: In the Uygur population, the mean length, height, and depth of the male frontal sinus were larger than those of the female. The comparison between the measured values of the left and right frontal sinus of normal adults showed that the length, depth and height of the frontal sinus were statistically different(P<0.05),and the length and height of the right frontal sinus were statistically different(P<0.05).There was no statistical difference in the depth of the right frontal sinus(P>0.05).According to the ROC curve, the area under the curve of the left frontal sinus length is maximally 0.809,indicating that the length of the left frontal sinus is the most sensitive indicator in gender inference. The accuracy rate based on the gender inference equation of the frontal sinus length was 77.1% for men and 72.4% for women. Conclusion: The length of the left frontal sinus is the best predictor for gender inference, and the equation was obtained for gender inference of Xinjiang Uygur population, which supplements forensic identification.
