Objective: 1 To observe the frontal sinus and the change of the size of frontal sinus ostium as the development of the age.2 To analyze different frontal recess cells and their frequency as the frontal sinus development with age.Methods:We analyzed 85 cases(170 sides)of the axial sinus CT in Bethune International Peace Hospital from May 2015 to August 2015.All cases from 4-20 years old were divided into four groups(4-7 years old,8-11 years old,12-15 years old,16-20 years old).There were 56 male cases,female 29,excepting 12 sides of the frontal sinus which were not developed.All CT data was obtained through 320 layer spiral CT.The axial sinus CT is 0.5 mm slice thickness,0.5 mm slice spacing and the coronal and sagittal CT was obtained with the Image Viewer software reconstruction.The development of frontal sinus drainage pathway was analyzed by three-dimensional CT data.Three parameter concluding transverse diameter frontal sinus,anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus size was analyzed as the growth of the age to find the trend of change with age.We recognize the frontal recess cells and to explore the emergence of them as the development of the age.Results: 1 The development of the left side frontal sinus with age.The transverse diameter of the frontal sinus,anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus of all the 85 cases had no significant differences between different gender(P?0.05).That was to say,the development of the size of the left frontal sinus was not related with gender.There was no difference between the two age groups(12 ~ 15 and 16 ~20 years old)on the transverse diameter of the frontal sinus of all the 85 cases,and there was a difference between every two remaining groups.There was a difference between the first age group and the other three groups within the anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus of all the 85 cases,and there was no difference between every two remaining groups.That was to say,the development of the transverse diameter of the frontal sinus reached a steady state between 12 to 15 years old;the development of the anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus reached a steady state among 8 to 11 years old.2 The development of the right side frontal sinus with age.The transverse diameter of the frontal sinus and anterior-posterior diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus of all the 85 cases between different gender had significant differences between different gender(P ?0.05).The transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus had no significant differences(P?0.05).There was significant difference between the first age groups and the other three groups on the transverse diameter of the frontal sinus,the anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus of all the 85 cases,and there was no difference between every two remaining groups.That was to say,the development of the transverse diameter of the frontal sinus,the anterior-posterior and transverse diameter of the ostium of frontal sinus reached a steady state between 8 to 11 years old.3 The development of the frontal recess cells with age.For male,the frequency of the frontal cells during different age group were 37.5%,54.1%,33.3%,52.5% respectively;the suprabulla recess were91.7%,100%,79.2%,72.5%;the frontal bulla cells were 8.3%,0.0%,8.3%;15.0%,the interfrontal sinus septal cell were 8.3%,4.2%,25.0%,42.5%.The frequency of the frontal cells,the interfrontal sinus septal cell were on the rise as the growth of the age for male;the suprabulla recess declined;the frequency of the frontal bulla cells did not have association with age.For female,the frequency of the frontal cells were 56.3%,50.0%,56.3%,30.0% respectively;the suprabulla recess were 43.8%,62.5%,87.5%,90.0%;the frontal bulla cell were 25.0%,37.5%,12.5%,10.0%;the interfrontal sinus septal cell were 0.0%,12.5%,43.8%,10.0%.The frequency of the suprabulla recess and the interfrontal sinus septal cell were on the rise as the growth of age for female,while the frequency of the frontal cells and the frontal bulla cell did not have association with age.Conclusions:1 The development of the frontal sinus and the ostium of frontal sinus size had reached a steady state among 12 to 15 years old.2 The frequency of the interfrontal sinus septal cell was on the rise with age,while the frontal bulla cells did not change with age.The frequency of the frontal cells rised as the growth of age for male,while did not change with age for female.The frequency of the suprabulla recess declined for male,while rised as the growth of age for female.
