ObjectivesThis paper aims to describe the posttraumatic growth status of parents of no n-only children born with congenital malformation under the two-child policy,an d explore the factors that may affect the posttraumatic growth.Based on the anal yses of effects of anxiety level, coping styles, social support, and psychological re silience on the posttraumatic growth of parents of children born with congenital malformation, further improve the nursing interventions and provide theoretical ba sis for clinical nursing intervention.MethodsThis research is a cross-sectional descriptive study.Using the objective samp ling method, the research surveyed with questionnaires among parents of non-only children born with congenital malformation, who matched the inclusion and excl usion standard and pediatric surgical hospitalized in two comprehensive Grade 3A hospitals in Jinan,Shandong province from November 2017 to July 2018.The in struments used in this research included the general information questionnaires for parents and children,Posttraumatic Growth Inventory(PTGI),Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),Connor-David-son Resilience Scale(CD-RISC),and Social Support Revalued Scale(SSRS).The re search data was analyzed by the SPSS 19.0 statistical software, the statistical meth ods mainly included the descriptive statistical analysis,independent-sample ttest,v ariance analysis,Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analy sis.Results1.A total of 325 questionnaires were issued, and 300 effective questionnaires were recovered after the unqualified and invalid questionnaires were removed,wi th an effective rate of 92.3%.2.The parents surveyed average age is(33.44±4.99),among them the workers and farmers account for the highest proportion, which is 32.7%.Those who have the high school or technical secondary school degrees account for 42.3%.The pr oportion of Han Chinese is 97.0%,and that for the non-religious is 95.7%.About 56.3%of the households surveyed live in the cities, and the households with the monthly income under ten thousand RMB account for 68.0%.During the time of hospitalization,24.3%of the parents surveyed need to take care of all the childr en in the family alone, and 53.0%of the children patients’ siblings are taken care of by their grandparents, followed by maternal grandparents.3.In this survey, the male children patients are in the majority, accounting f or 64.3%with the average age of(25.92±26.81)months.The patients who suffer from congenital hydronephrosis have the highest proportion, which is 31.7%,follo wed by that of those with congenital hypospadias(18.7%),congenital dislocation of hip(16.7%),congenital bile duct dilatation(15.7%),congenital megacolon(13.7%),and other diseases(3.6%)including congenital anorectal dysplasia and funne 1 chest. The major mode of payment is medical insurance, accounts for 66.3%of all the payment methods.4.The score of the posttraumatic growth of parents of non-only children bor n with congenital malformation is(69.95±19.54)points,of which the father score s 72.66±18.40 points, higher than the mother does, which is(67.39±20.29)points.The influencing factors ranked from high to low in order of scores,in turn, are i nterpersonalrelationships(23.40±6.68),new possibilities(15.40±5.75),personal str ength(13.73±4.22),appreciation of life(10.90±3.11),and change of spirits(6.53±2.37).5.According to the univariate analysis, there exists statistic difference(P<0.05)in the influence of age, gender, education level, income level, and religious bel ief on the posttraumatic growth status of parents of non-only children born with c ongenital malformation.Whereas the gender of the children patients, the methods of the medical payment, and the types of disease have no influence on the posttra umatic growth status.Besides, the interpersonalrelationships, new possibilities, per sonal strength, appreciation of life also exhibit statistic difference(P<0.05).6.The Pearson correlation analysis shows that the posttraumatic growth is p ositively correlated with the anxiety(r=0.028,P<0.05),positive coping style(r=0.463,P<0.01),negative coping style(r=0.167,P<0.01),psychological resilience(r=0.537,P<0.01),and social support(r=0.370,P<0.01),with statistical significan ce.7.The multiple linear regression analysis prompts that the positive coping st yle, tenacity, subjective support, religious belief, education level and age of the p arents are the independent influencing factors on the posttraumatic growth(P<0.05).The strength, positive coping style, subjective support, and the age of the pare nts are independent influencing factors on the appreciation of life(P<0.05).The s trength, subjective support, gender of the parents and the children patients, educat ion level and age of the parents are the independent influencing factors on the pe rsonal strength(P<0.05).The tenacity, use of support, education level and age of the parents, and religious belief are the independent influencing factors on the cha nge of spirits(P<0.05).The tenacity, subjective support, positive coping style, reli gious belief, education level and age of the parents are the independent influencin g factors on the new possibilities(P<0.05).The positive coping style, methods of the medical payment, religious belief, education level and age of the parents are the independent influencing factors on the interpersonalrelationships(P<0.05).Conclusions1.The posttraumatic growth of parents of non-only children born with congen ital malformation is in the medium level. The positive rate of posttraumatic growt h is 67.3%,and the father has a higher level of posttraumatic growth than the m other.Based on this, the nursing staff is advised to increase psychological counse ling for the mother of non-only children.Guide her to make full use of the social support and adopt positive strategies.2.The posttraumatic growth of parents of non-only children born with congen ital malformation is influenced by the household monthly income, parents’ age,ed ucation level, religious belief and other factors, but is not related to the types of disease, and gender and age of the children patients.3.The parents of non-only children born with congenital malformation are in the medium level of anxiety, and parts of them adopt the negative coping style. The nursing staff should pay attention to their level of anxiety and and instruct them to take positive measures such as emotional management to alleviat e their anxiety.Instruct parents to adopt appropriate coping methods according to the situation, maintain physical and mental health, and achieve self-growth.4.The positive coping style, tenacity, subjective support, religious belief, educ ation level and age of the parents are the significant influencing factors on the posttraumatic growth. In addition to providing objective support such as dis ease information,it is suggested that parents of non-onlychildren should be enc ouraged to increase communication with their relatives and friends to obtain emotional support. To guide elderly parents and parents with higher education level to carry out psychological adjustment, face life actively and improve post traumatic growth.
