Objective We studied the Knowledge Attitude/Belief and Practice status of oral care aiming at preventing Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia(VAP)of nurses in Intensive Care Unit(ICU)through producing a Knowledge Attitude/Belief and Practice Scale(KAPS),and analyzed the main impact factors,in order to improve the adherence of oral care aiming at preventing VAP,and to make a recommendation in continuing education and training progames of oral care for ICU nurses. Methods 1.After retrieving relevent scales and literatures publised at home and abroad, combining clinical practice, and referring to guidelines of VAP and reviewer comments of expert in clinical, nursing and hospital infection,we drawed up a KAPS of oral care aiming at preventing VAP to investigate the KAP status of ICU nurses, and revised the scale after the Delphi method, then tested its reliability and validity.2.A convenience sample of 240 ICU nurses from zhenjiang hospitals range from IIA to IIIA through the demographic characteristic questionnaire and KAPS we designed first, and 230 copies of valid data are recycled.3.SPSS 22.0 software package are used for statistical analysis,P<0.05 is considered statistically significant, and all the tests are double-sided.The demographic characteristic are described as frequency, mean value, composition ratio and standard deviation. The score and impact factors of the KAP situation described above are analysed by Two independent sample t-test,One-way ANOVA,Multiple stepwise regression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis. Results 1.The KAPS we designed has satisfying reliability and validity.2.The full score of the knowledge of oral care aiming at preventing VAP was 33,and the average score was 27.74±2.90.The full score of Attitude/Belief was 35,and the average score was 31.78±3.67.The full score of Behaviorwas 60,and the average score was 46.37±7.94.3.According to single factor analysis, the knowledge scores of different ages, marital status, hospital grade, service year, service year in ICU,professional title, job title, department,BedNum of ICU,and Clinical Nurse Specialist status were statistically different(P<0.05).The Attitude/Belief scores of different ages, gender, marital status, hospital grade, service year, service year in ICU,professional title, job title,BedNum of ICU were statistically different(P<0.05).The behavior scores of different ages, marital status, service year, service year in ICU,professional title, job title, employment form,BedNum of ICU,and Clinical Nurse Specialist status were statistically different(P<0.05).4.According to multiple stepwise regression analysis, the main impact factors of knowledge of oral care aiming at preventing VAP were age and department, the main impact factors of Attitude/Belief of oral care aiming at preventing VAP were hospital grade and gender, the main impact factors of Behavior of oral care aiming at preventing VAP were service year in ICU and professional title.5.Positive correlations were found in Knowledge,Attitude/Belief and Behavior in oral care aiming at preventing VAP,and the correlation coefficient is 0.46,0.45,0.42 respectively(P<0.01).Conclusions 1.Deficiency is found in the knowledge level of oral care aiming at preventing VAP,and Attitude/Belief score is good, but improvement is still be expected, and better adherence of behavior should be seen.2.The age and department of ICU nurses have significant influence on the knowledge level, and the hospital grade and gender have significant influence on Attitude/belief,and the service year in ICU and professional title have significant influence on the behavior pattern in oralcare aiming at preventing VAP.3.The Knowledge level of ICU nurses in oral care aiming at preventing VAP can influence the Attitude/belief status, and the Attitude/belief status may determine the adherence of Behavior.4.In order to remove obstacles of effective nursing operation,re-education is still needed for ICU nurses about the knowledge in oral care,Clinical teaching process should be more materialized, learning of guideline and operating procedure should be reinforced,Clinical evidence-based nursing need to be further Promoted,Exchange of learning experiences in hospitals of different levels is couraged, and resource allocation can be more optimized.
