The Clinical Value Of ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT In Ophthalmic Occupying Lesions

[Objective] To investigate the clinical value of whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT in ophthalmic occupying lesions.[Methods] This was a retrospective study of 18F-FDG PET/CT images on patients from Jan 2010 to Oct 2017 with ocular diseases as the first symptom who were treated in our hospital,or patients who were found eye occupying lesion on 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging by accident.18F-FDG PET/CT image characteristics were summarized.To analyze the correct rate of 18F-FDG PET/CT compared with pathology,which was considered as the only golden standard.The effect of 18F-FDG PET/CT on therapeutic decision was also evaluated.[Results] 46 cases were enrolled in this study,including lymphoma(n=20),acute lymphoblastic leukemia(n=1),choroidal melanoma(n=7),metastatic tumors(n=6),retinoblastoma(n=2),nasopharyngeal carcinoma(n=2),nasal melanoma(n=1),malignant dermoid cyst(n=1),sebaceous gland carcinoma(n=1),leiomyosarcoma(n=1)and 4 cases of benign lesions(tuberculosis,fibromatosis,inflammatory pseudotumor and hemangioma).In this study 41.3%(19/46)were with oculus sinister involvement,54.3%(25/46)with oculus dexter,and 2 cases with oculus uterque(4.4%).28 patients(60.9%)were found multiple lesions according to 18F-FDG PET/CT whole body imaging.Among the 31 patients who were performed 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging before the histopathological examination,the diagnostic accuracy of 18F-FDG PET/CT was 87.1%(27/31).Metastatic tumors and postoperative residual lesions were found in 11 of 15 patients who had surgery or biopsy before 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging.Among the patients with ocular lymphoma,melanoma and metastatic tumor,66.7% of them changed the clinical staging and therapeutic decision after 18F-FDG PET/CT examination.[Conclusions] 18F-FDG PET/CT can not only provide support for the diagnosis of ocular lesions,but also play an important role in clinical staging and therapeutic decision.
