Objective:This article studies the clinical data of 140 patients with maxillofacial space infection, and analyzes the risk factors for serious complications and poor prognosis, providing a basis for prompt and effective diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Methods:The clinical data of 140 patients were from the medical records of patients with maxillofacial space infection who were hospitalized at the First Hospital of Jilin University from December 2012 to December 2017.We analyzed a number of factors including gender, age, cause of etiology, seasonal distribution, time from symptom to hospitalization, site of infection, laboratory tests, underlying systemic disease, serious complications, and outcomes, and analyzed the relationship between various factors and the occurrence of serious complications and poor prognosis.Results:1.There were 82 males and 58 females in the maxillofacial space infection with a ratio of 1.41:1.Among these patients, middle and old age(67.86%)accounted for a large proportion. There were more people in the autumn and winter(81).2.Clinical characteristics: The patients often came to the hospital because of swelling or pain. They took their medications before the hospital treatment, but they had no effect or worsened their condition. The most common cause was odontogenic(50.71%),the most commonly found is the submandibular space(67.86%),and the proportion of multi-space infections(80%)was large in infections.3.laboratory examination: The most common pathogenic bacteria are Streptococcus viridians(33.59%)and Klebsiella pneumoniae(7.63%),followed by beta-hemolytic streptococci(4.58%).Anaerobic bacteria were detected in 5 patients.4.Treatment : In this study,127 patients(90.71%)underwent incision/puncture discharge;13 patients(9.29%)underwent conservative treatment because their abscesses ruptured to form drainage channels.5.Age?60 years, combined systemic system disease, and neck infection were independent risk factors for serious complications(p<0.05).Dyspnea was an independent risk factor for poor prognosis(p<0.05).Conclusions:1.Maxillofacial space infection occurs in middle-aged and elderly people, and there are more men.Dental infections are the most common.Submandibular space is the most infected space.2.The treatment of MSI mostly uses antibiotics, incision drainage, puncture and drainage, etc. The most commonly detected pathogens are Streptococcus viridans and Klebsiella pneumoniae.3.Age?60 years, combined systemic system disease, and neck infection were independent risk factors for serious complications.Dyspnea was an independent risk factor for poor prognosis.
