Objective:1. Research the epidemiological characteristic of maxillofacial space infection (MSI) in Yantai-Weihai District.2. Retrospective study of the etiology, clinical manifestations, clinical diagnosis and clinical therapy of maxillofacial space infection (MSI), provides a reference for the diagnosis and therapy of the disease.3. To conclude the comprehensive treatment plan of maxillofacial space infection. Materials and methods:1. A total of 240 patients who were admitted and treated with MSI in the Department of stomatology in Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital from January 2005 to December 2014. Patient selection criteria must conclude the following criteria:1).treatment process must be complete.2).the integrity of medical records.2. The clinical data of 240 patients with maxillofacial space infection in Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital from December 2014 to January 2005 were reviewed. The etiology, infection bacterias, complications, diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial space infection (MSI) were retrospectively studied.Result1. Patients more than 50 years old has the highest incidence rate. The ratio of male to female was 1.55:1.The odontogenic infection accounted for 56.25%.2. The odontogenic infection which are up to 135 cases (56.25%) ranks first,48 cases (20%) of the gland origin infection cases. The infection sites focus on submandibularspace, the floor space of the mouth, masseteric space, buccalspace.85 cases are cured after conservative treatment; 153 cases after abscess incision and drainage and drug treatment are all healed, which 143 cases without obvious complications,10 patients with difficulty in breathing, tracheal incision treatment are adopted.2 cases with hematogenous infection with complicated with sepsis, infection of mediastinum have a poor prognosis and died in the en.3. Gram positive bacteria were the main bacteria in oral maxillofacial space infection, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and grass green Streptococcus were the most common infection sources, and mixed infection accounted for 32.23%.4. The average length of hospital stay in cases with DM was 13 days, and the average length of hospital stay in cases without DM was 9 days. The average length in patients with diabetes was significantly higher than those without diabetes. In oral and maxillofacial space infection, we have compared the complication incidence of DM between single space infection and multiple space infections (X2). The difference has statistical significance. It shows that the patients with DM is more prone to infection.Conclusion:1. The incidence of patients with MSI population is mainly the elderly people over the age of 60, The infection sites focus on submandibularspace, the floor space of the mouth, massetericspace, buccalspace.2. Patients with maxillofacial space infection complicated with diabetes prone to multi space infection; the early diagnose of the maxillofacial space infection is imperative, the use of adequate sensitive antibiotics is needed, the timely incision drainage after abscess formation, active control of systemic basic diseases and other comprehensive treatment measures can improve the cure rate of maxillofacial space infection, reduce complications.
